Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristin Flores-Brockman.
Hi Kristin, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I grew up in Rockford, Illinois. I wasnt the youngest of 3 kids. My father was an immigrant from Monterrey, Mexico and met my mother at his brothers wedding. My mother was from the south side of Chicago. We grew up poor but we had love, respect and morals in our home. My first 7 years of life was in a tiny 2 bedroom apartment. My father was a janitor for Ingersoll and my mother stayed home with the kids until we were old enough to be put in Head Start. She was great at saving money, so we bought our first home in 1989, when I was 7. A few years later, my father had a brain aneurysm at work and that forever changed our lives. My father needed around the clock care. He was told he’d never be able to walk or talk again… Well he did. It wasn’t perfect, but he took daily walks to the park. Sadly, he passed away from a seizure in our home the beginning of my senior year in high school. Shortly after I started grad school in 2006, my mother was diagnosed with Stage 4 Colon Cancer. That was so difficult. She was my only parent left and I was only 23. She fought hard. My oldest brother was expecting his first son, my other brother was about to get married and I was about to graduate with a master’s degree. My mother wanted to see all of that. Sadly, the cancer was too aggressive and she passed away in June 2007. My upbringing wasn nothing but difficult. However, I never used it as an excuse. Instead I use it as motivation. My parents taught me and my brothers the value of hard work, family, and seeing yourself through difficult situations. I moved down to Texas a little over 12 years ago to advance my career. I did not know anyone in Texas, but I quickly fell in love with Fort Worth. I loved everything about it! The history, culture, people, opportunities, and yes, even the weather! I decided that this is where I wanted to live, so I started the home-buying process. My realtor was introduced to me by a former student. He quickly became a friend to me. As a young, single woman who was alone in this process, I really leaned on my realtor for guidance, advice, support, and reassurance. Fast-forward to several years later, he also helped me with the purchase of my second home. I was a high school teacher for many years, and I was not satisfied with the way the education system was moving, and I lost my passion for classroom teaching. My heart is still a teacher though. I absolutely love working with people and teaching. I began to do some soul-searching and praying to see how I should pivot my career. My memories of purchasing 2 home with my realtor/friend stuck out. I would still be able to teach people if I became a realtor, so I did. I worked hard to get licensed and start my business. It is hard work, but I am extremely passionate about it. I love the challenge; the hustle, and grind, and I love seeing people get into homes to make memories with their families.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have had many obstacles. I lost my father when I was 17 and my mother when I was 24. Luckily, they raised me to be independent because I did not have the luxury that other people my age had…”ooh, if this doesn’t work out, I can just move in with mom and day for a few months.” No, I HAD to make my life work because I was the only one I could depend on and count on. I also have 2 older brothers that I called on for advice, but they lived in different states and started families of their own. Unfortunately, one of my older brothers just recently passed away from gastric cancer. It was a shock and a tragic loss to our family and his community. He was a financial advisor, and he guided me with my finances and other handy life skills. He is my inspiration for being a successful Realtor.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business.
When I first got into real estate, I joined a big-box brokerage, it did not feel right to me, I was not getting the support or mentorship that I wanted or needed. As I began to search for a new brokerage, I found Rendon Realty, LLC. This brokerage has been such a blessing for me. It was started by Noel Rendon. He is a former Dallas Police Officer and a Hispanic male. My oldest brother is an Indiana State Trooper, and many of my friends are Chicago Police officers, so I have much respect for officers. Rendon Realty functions as a family. We support, guide, and pray for each other. They have an amazing mentorship program and great leaders. What sets me apart is being a former high school teacher, I am organized, a planner, detailed orientated, goal-orientated, and people-orientated. Service and education to the community is my personal mission. If I can find a way to support an organization, either financially or with my time, I will. I donate a lot of money to youth programs because I believe in supporting our youth and giving them opportunities. I go above and beyond for my clients, friends, and family, I know it sounds like a cliche catchphrase, but I really do. My purpose and my passion is to serve others.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My husband, Ray, deserves a lot of credit. We have been together over 10 years. He is my biggest advocate, supporter, cheerleader, and best friend. My friends and family also play a big role in supporting me. They know I am a good decision-maker and a hard worker, so they are confident when they refer clients to me
