Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristin LaRue.
Kristin, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
As a girl, I spent countless hours with my grandmother, digging through her photographs that she had taken while on her many adventures. She taught me the importance of preserving memories and documenting life. I’ve been a lover of photography since. In 2006, my world completely flipped upside down, and I became a mom to twin boys. I started documenting just about every single moment that they were awake or asleep. I was absolutely obsessed with them. Lol! My husband bought me my first “fancy camera” for Mother’s Day, and I uploaded pictures of my children onto Myspace. Before long, I was being asked by friends and family to take pictures of their families. What started out as bookings here and there, started keeping me pretty steady. In 2008, I felt ready to open my photography business to the outside world, and have now been a professional photographer for over a decade.
I am an all-inclusive photographer in Paris, Texas but offer my services to anyone, anywhere. I’ve photographed weddings all over Texas, and as far as Florida. I have photographed graduating seniors, that later booked me for their weddings, and now use me for their baby’s photographs. Gotta love the circle of life and how I’ve been included in some major milestones in other people’s lives over the years! I am truly blessed to be able to do what I love and to love what I do.
Has it been a smooth road?
I think my biggest struggle over the years has definitely been finding a healthy balance between being a professional photographer, and a homemaker. As a wife of 13 years and a mom of three boys, my main priority is supposed to be to my family. However, with a career that doesn’t have a day off, or a time clock to punch at the end of my shift, lol, that doesn’t always happen. Sunset sessions prevent me from cooking supper, helping with homework, and even spending time with my children before they go to bed.. and weekend bookings keep me away from home while my kids aren’t in school, and that can get very hard, both physically… as well as emotionally. Over the last year, I’ve started putting a limit on how many weddings are booked each month, and I’ve started booking portrait sessions on specific days. I’ve also set business hours for clients to be able to reach me during, and I’m able to “unplug” more. Limiting myself has really helped me to spend more much-needed family time with my tribe of guys. After all, without them… none of this would have been possible!
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I’m an International Award-Winning, memory documenting Photographer of Life + Love and have been since 2008. I’ve been around for over a solid decade now, and have photographed both big and small moments for thousands of people. I think what sets me apart from others in my field, is my down to earth personality, my sense of humor, and my ability to adapt to any situation that I’m in and connect with my clients. Regardless if it’s a wedding day or a photography session, I know nothing ever goes according to plan. Chaos happens, and I fully believe it’s up to me as a photographer, to simply coordinate it.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I’m located north of the DFW area but have several clients from in and around that area that drive to me, or that I drive to. Most of my DFW clients choose me because of my small town prices. For an hour and a half drive, I’m probably more affordable than even some of the beginning photographers in their location. The DFW Metroplex is thriving, and honestly, would be a terrific place for anyone to succeed in. It all depends on a person’s drive to pursue their goals, marketing structure, and their ability to get their name known, but more importantly… their passion for their art, as well as their success.
