Meet Kyle Osteen of Forge on Dyer in Old East Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyle Osteen.

Kyle, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My story begins as a freshman in college. I wanted to do what most teenage boys do, become stronger and bigger. I started using every resource I had to figure out how to do that on my own. I was amazed by the results that an inexperienced person like me could gain and wondered how much better it could have gone if I knew what I was doing. After my freshmen year, I transferred to Texas Tech where I majored in nutrition. It was there that I discovered Exercise Sport Sciences and immediately changed my major. I knew I had found what I loved. After college, I chose to pursue my master’s degree at Texas Tech. Once I graduated with my masters, I went to work at GNC. While working there, I met another personal trainer who put me in touch with the fitness director of Royal Oaks Country Club where I gained a ton of experience and started my professional career. While working at the country club, I started to notice a pattern.

Most of my clients would come to me with years of compensations or weaknesses that were causing pain and injury. They would try physical therapy, chiropractors, massage and even surgery and still weren’t getting the results they wanted. I decided to do something about it and chose two therapies I thought would help the most. I use NeuroKinetic Therapy and Proprioceptive Deep Tendon Reflex to determine muscle imbalances, weak muscles, and overactive muscles and help retrain them and the nervous system. These therapies usually work on the nervous system and musculoskeletal in conjunction with each other to deliver the best and fastest results. I always dreamed of owning my own studio one day and when a client and now partner of mine offered his business help, I jumped at the opportunity. We plan on opening the Forge on Dyer in August. It will be a functional training studio with equipment not found anywhere else in Dallas where we will have the best training while also treating and preventing injury.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I always hate when I read someone’s success story and they leave out the time, effort, and failure that it takes to get to where they are. For me, opening the Forge on Dyer has been a labor of time, education, and a relentless pursuit of making myself better. Just nine years ago I was a college graduate with two degrees working at GNC selling vitamins and living with my parents. While there’s absolutely nothing wrong with working in the retail industry (and I encourage everyone to spend time in retail or food service for the customer service experience), it was definitely not my “dream job” or what I thought I would be doing after college. It’s taken a lot of humility and refining my training and recovery method to get to the point of being able – both financially and mentally – to open the studio. Even now I’m not guaranteed success but I sure hope for it!

Please tell us about Forge on Dyer.
The Forge on Dyer is a studio that focuses on functional training and injury prevention/treatment. This will be accomplished through highly educated trainers and therapists using specialized equipment. What makes me most proud about this company is the customer service and attention to detail. We offer quality service and exceed our client’s expectations. We know how important a client’s health is and we are proud to be chosen to have a helping hand in their well being so we take that seriously. What sets us apart from other studios and gyms is our degreed trainers and therapists who have shown they are not your everyday trainer and are constantly striving to learn more and do more for their clientele.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I could start over, I would have wanted to discover the therapies I practice earlier. These methods have proved to be life changing and I can’t imagine how many more lives could have been affected and how much better my practices would be if I had started sooner.
