Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyle Powell.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
On one of my first days at a new job, I was handed a camera and told to figure it out. They were in need of video and photo content and didn’t know how to use the camera they had just bought and tasked the new guy with figuring it out.
As I began shooting and watching tons of tutorials, I quickly fell in love with the art form. Photography quickly became more than a necessary part of my job and an absolute passion.
Has it been a smooth road?
I’m sure like most photographers, I had my own struggles along the way. Trying to find what types of photography I liked and how I would make a name for myself in a field that seems to have endless competition, we’re some of the main difficulties I faced. Lots of practice and lots of conversations with more experienced photographers were absolutely crucial in becoming the photographer I am today.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I market myself as a freelance photographer but primarily focus on portraits with models and boutiques. Family portraits and professional headshots are also huge parts of what I do. As a business, I pride myself in providing images that my clients absolutely love and can’t wait to share. Something that I’ve heard time and time again from clients that sets me apart from other photographers is the approach I take prepping for and during our shoot. I’m a super laid back guy by nature and so I try to keep my shoots laid back. I find that this leads to more authentic and natural feeling photos.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I think Dallas is a great place to learn photography and be a photographer. There is always something to shoot and tons of amazing places to shoot. I will say that it can be difficult to find your place since there is such an over-saturation of talented photographers, but when you find your niche and build up your reputation, you can do very well for yourself.
