Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyle Shafer.
Kyle, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My parents actually met in a singing group that toured the country singing and performing at VA Medical Centers, so I grew up in a very musical home in which there was always music playing and we would all sing and dance together. Singing and playing instruments was always a major part of my life, so when it came to making a decision for college, I knew that’s what I wanted to do.
The University of North Texas in Denton seemed like the perfect fit for me, so I came down in 2013 and started pursuing my degree in vocal performance. It didn’t take long to realize that education was going to be the better route for me in terms of how the Lord gifted me, so I started pursuing my degree in music education. As my degree was wrapping up in 2017, I started realizing that teaching privately was something that I was a lot more gifted at and that I had a lot of qualities and attributes that other entrepreneurs and business owners had so I founded Zera Music Company with a desire to grow up instructors in their abilities to teach privately and also just to be able to give kids quality music education conveniently in their homes. My foundation on Christ informs all my decision making, which has given me such hope and encouragement as we continue to grow in our ability to serve everyone we work with!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Because I only have my degree in music, learning about the business aspect of things has required quite the learning curve! When I got started, I was certainly not as prepared as I could have been, but the Lord has been kind to allow our growing pains to not negatively impact the experiences that each of our families have had with us!
Please tell us about Zera Music Company.
We have music instructors all over the metroplex that are extremely qualified and passionate about teaching privately. We run them through a very intense vetting process, and train them up in their abilities to teach and serve families. Most of our instructors specialize in piano, guitar, and voice lessons, but we’re most known for the special care we take in making sure that each of our students is progressing no matter their learning style. I am most proud of our instructor’s desires to improve on their already phenomenal teaching abilities and our ability to care well for people. Our teaching quality and care definitely sets us apart, along with our student portal, our tri-annual recitals, our flexibility and convenience of scheduling, and our teaching curriculum!
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
There’s honestly nothing I would have done differently! God’s Will and plan is constantly playing out, and He has taken special care of every situation and decision we have had to make and will continue to make going forward, so I just trust in that!
