Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyle Shiels.
Kyle, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I worked for a menswear shop (Allton’s) in Edmond, Oklahoma for several years while attending school. Upon graduating, I moved to Dallas with my wife and started working for Stanley Korshak as the assistant buyer in the Men’s department.
After working there for a couple of years, I decided to explore a new avenue and entered the world of Commercial Real Estate. It was then I quickly realized I wanted to be back in the industry where I felt truly at home (Men’s clothing), but it was important to me that I carved out something of my own.
I drew from years of experience, key relationships fostered throughout the years, and a passion for high-quality clothing. In January 2017, I put pen to paper and began to map out my business plan… Fast forward, a lot of work and determination… and the doors to my dream opened in August 2018.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting your own business takes patience – it took time to find the perfect space for the store and to execute the lease. It was important to feel that I had collaborated with the best team possible to align the store with the clientele in Dallas (tailors, brands, etc.). I wanted to ensure we executed the best possible vision for both the brand and the store.
Please tell us about Uncommon Man.
Uncommon Man specializes in custom and bespoke sartorial Menswear. We work closely with tailors and brands out of Italy that have little to zero exposure in the country or this region of the country. We are so proud of the level of garment we provide and also pride ourselves on the experience our customers have while in store.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I moved a lot throughout my childhood, so I would have to say the memories I deem the most special are the times I got to spend with my family.
