Today we’d like to introduce you to Kytarri Harris.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
As a new stylist, I worked in Salon chains such as Smartstyle and Supercuts. That was my true Foundation as a beginner. After struggling with many more salons, I decided to join Influance Haircare Team and moved to Mesquite to Girl Talk Salon that is where my blossoming began. I gained so much knowledge and built so many professional relationships. I grew a clientele so large I moved into a suite and continued building my own brand. That is when I learned I had such a great clientele that I can help other future stylist grow and learn without the major struggles that I had to endure. Now I own The Locd Bar Salon in Mesquite, Texas, where we are passionate with growing cosmetologist straight out of beauty college. Our salon starts with hourly and commission pay rates which helps new stylist grow a clientele without the burden of an overhead. I’m honored to be in a position to help others the way I needed the help. I have been in the industry for 11 years and I am glad to be a part of something so creative and lucrative. I’m proud of the ladies that come through the salon and put such an effort into helping themselves grow and also being a part of helping my Salon to continue to grow and thrive. We have created a successful steppingstone for them to continue learning, provide healthy hair services, to grow their career and flourish on their own, we hope to continue as well as to have a chain of salons one day.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
As a stylist,Some of my struggles I would say was finding a salon that I can make my home. A salon that had other cosmetologist that were dedicated into growing and helping each other grow. Iron sharpens iron
As a salon owner, my struggles are finding a like-minded team that recognizes they have to start from the beginning and grow from therenot at the top. It’s a marathon, not a race.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in natural hair care. I’m known for doing Locs and that is my specialty. I’m most proud of my growth and the ability to want to help others learn and grow. What sets me apart from others is the hair care knowledge I have and want others to have. I’m not just a stylist. I’m a healthy hair care provider.
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters to me most is that we protect our industry, maintain the professionalism, educate clients on how to maintain a healthy hair care routine, educating ourselves whether that’s reading, researching or attending classes.
