Today we’d like to introduce you to Lacey Boerm.
Hi Lacey, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve been doing photography since I was thirteen, but a camera’s always been in my hands, even since I was 3! Growing up, I lived on ranches and farms, which gave me plenty of things to photograph and strengthen my skill set.
For my thirteenth birthday, my parents got me a little Kodak camera. But my desire to learn more about photography kicked in and I very quickly outgrew that little camera. About a year and half later, my parents then got me my first DSLR camera for Christmas: a Canon Rebel T6. I photographed everything and anything I could with that camera! In 2021, my dad got a new job, causing my family and I to move from everything we knew in Corpus Christi all the way to Kerrville, Texas. That Christmas, I was gifted another camera by my cousins: a Canon EOSR (still use it to this day!).
In May of 2022, I second shot a wedding for the very first time ever. I was only sixteen! I had no idea that that day would change my life. Since that day, I’ve been shadowing and second shooting for other wedding photographers, trying to grow and learn from anyone I can.
On July 13, 2023, I launched my own wedding photography business, Lacey Boerm Photography. Since then, I’ve been working pretty much nonstop to ensure my business grows and flourishes for my amazing couples. Everyone deserves the best for their wedding, especially when it comes to photos of the big day. After all, photos last more than a lifetime!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s definitely had its challenges. But everything does! Balancing busy wedding season in the fall with my junior and senior year of high school was not always easy. My parents sacrificed a lot of time, energy, and sleep to drive me to and from almost every wedding I photographed at. Thankfully now I have my own car, so they won’t have to sacrifice all of that as much.
The saying, “you are your own worst critic,” is definitely true. Especially when you’re a terrible overthinker. There were plenty of days where I thought I wasn’t good enough or I wasn’t doing enough to grow my business. Even still now I have my moments where those thoughts flood back. It’s a hard mental battle to fight, but pushing through everyone has made me stronger and more knowledgeable!
I haven’t had too much backlash for choosing a less-popular career, which I am very thankful for. I’m blessed enough to be surrounded by a lot of people who love, care, and support what I’m doing. It’s an amazing thing to have, that’s for sure.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business.
Lacey Boerm Photography is a wedding and couples photography business based in Kerrville, Texas. I serve Kerrville, Fredericksburg, San Antonio, and the Corpus Christi area.
Contrary to what some may think, my age does not reflect my skill. If anything, being only eighteen gives me a boost! It gives me a fresh look at the industry and how I can take different approaches to different scenarios.
LBP is for the couples who love clean, timeless, and classy. The couples who live off coffee, dancing in the fridge light at 2AM, and Jesus. Does this sound right up your alley? If it does, I think we’re going to get along greatly.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was very quiet and reserved. I was homeschooled my whole life, so I didn’t really have many close friends up until the last three years. When I wasn’t engrossed in whatever book I was reading, I was usually creating something with my hands. Whether that was making earrings out of clay, macrame plant hangers, or rubber band bracelets. I was always creating. I’ve always been the artsy kid in my family. (Not drawing or painting, though, I can’t do either of those to save my life.) But ever since I got that little Kodak camera, photography has always been my #1 passion.
