Today we’d like to introduce you to LaDarius Patterson.
LaDarius, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Growing up as a child I really enjoyed taking photos. Not so much of others at that time but of myself. My first real encounter with using a professional camera to take photos came about my senior year in high school. Where I enrolled into yearbook/journalism, and at that particular time I was not as serious about photography as much as I am now. Upon graduation, I had plans of going to school for visual arts and media production. However, those plans quickly changed as my life took a turn for the worse, with the unexpected death of my father. It took a huge toll on me, in which I began to take time away from school, to get away from people other than family to truly grieve and take things in.
A few years later I enrolled back into school at ITT Tech not for visual arts or media production but for Electrical Engineering. After completing one year and eight months for a two-year degree, all ITT Tech campuses worldwide closed down. I tried transferring to a few other schools, but not many would even accept half of my earned credits. Now at this time, I gave up completely with school, not the best idea I know. Going from job to job, not knowing my purpose or what I wanted to do with my life. Until one day I was at work in the truck speaking with one of my co-workers at the time about being our own boss. At that very moment is when photography was the first thing that came to mind. After countless prayers and talking it over with family, I then knew that photography was my true purpose. A few months later I received my first camera as a gift from my girlfriend and quickly followed up with purchasing my very first professional camera, and began shooting images of landscape/architecture, my girlfriend, friends & family to test out my skills, and help in beginning to sharpen and develop onto what I already knew.
Today I have the pleasure to take what I know, and have learned along the way & live out my brand’s motto with every client that books with me, which is to ‘Capture The Art of Moments.’ Phresh Photography is dedicated to provide you a true experience to keep with you for years to come. I want others to know that great quality is provided all the way around and I enjoy the fact that they have an opportunity to get a ‘Phresh Look on Life Through My lens.’
Has it been a smooth road?
I would be lying if I said it had been a smooth road. For the most part, it has not, but I honestly wouldn’t have it any other way. The struggles and bumps in the road that I have encountered over the years make me who I am today, and I’m very proud of myself. The biggest struggle I have dealt with thus far is the passing of my mother Mary Patterson (May 1st, 2018). Losing your biggest supporter and motivator can really take a toll on you.
With being new in the photography game, starting off was very rough. For the first few months of having my own camera, work was hard to come by. No one gave me a chance starting off since I was “Phresh” in the business of photography. So I studied and watched a countless number of videos and bought a couple of classes online to better my craft. Along with ensuring I shoot nearly everyday to continue to perfect and learn various techniques, lighting, positioning/angles, and ultimately know my camera functions inside and out. That very dedication has really begun to pay off for me, as I have had the opportunity to work with amazing clientele, brands, and companies.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Phresh Photography was founded in June of 2017 and built around the motto of ‘Capturing The Art of Moments.’ Where I work to provide all booked clientele top quality service and results for all of their photography needs. I am a very dedicated photographer striving to make my work speak for itself. I specialize in Lifestyle/Portraits/Events and Landscape. I wanted to create a ‘Phresh’ and unique brand and business that allowed for my clients to develop their photography visions.
Ultimately, I just love taking photos and seeing my clients reactions after they’ve seen their images. I’m most proud of the customer feedback (Whether it’s good or bad, there is always room for improvement and getting better). I think what sets me apart from others is being very versatile with my style of shooting. Although I do have specializations, I am able/have adapted to various styles and shooting requests, which in return has added to my skill level and opened others doors for additional clientele.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes, I do believe Dallas is a great place for any business, and not just for what I specialize in. Dallas being as big as it is, would be a great opportunity for any new business owner to grow and develop. Being that I’m from a small town far northeast Texas (Paris, TX). Its all about networking and since I started Phresh Photography, networking in the Dallas area has helped grow my brand and build my clientele. As far as improvements, I don’t have any that happen to come to mind, but just know there is always room for improvement in anything.
