Meet LaKeisha Williams of Kei Administration in Farmers Branch

Today we’d like to introduce you to LaKeisha Williams.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
As a kid, whenever someone asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I would always say I wanted to run my own business. But because I didn’t know anyone that could or would teach me to be an entrepreneur, I followed in my mom’s footsteps and got a job straight out of high school.

Fast forward to 2014, I was overworking myself and driving myself crazy trying to dig out of the financial hole I was in from trying to help everybody. One day an old friend reached out to me to catch up and ever so smoothly mentioned an opportunity that could put tons of money back into my pockets. Me being the curious person that I am and trying to make my situation better asked her for more information. She sent me 4 or 5 videos and told me to watch the first 2, but the information was so good and right on time I watched all 5. I immediately called her back and asked her, “Who do I need to pay to get started?” She then put me on the phone with a young man that invited me out to see more. The following day I saw exactly what I needed to see and got started.

A few months later, a few of us had an opportunity to have a private conversation with the founder who told us, “I didn’t start this company just so people could make me rich. I started it to teach people two things: 1. How to be better stewards over their finances. 2. The power of business ownership.” At that moment, a light bulb went off and I started asking him tons of questions. He basically told me that the same energy and effort it takes to participate in an MLM is the same energy and effort it takes to run your own business.

Shortly after that, my now husband and an old friend asked me if I would be interested in being their receptionist and I jumped at the opportunity. The timing couldn’t have been any more perfect because I was about to separate from my job and move back home. In January 2015, I set up I made my business official by filing for my llc. Due to the lack of integrity of one of the business partners, they were forced to dissolve their business which left me with an idle LLC and back on the hunt for income.

In the later part of 2015, I did some research and ran across the term virtual assistant. I did some research and dove in headfirst. By January 2016, I had my first client. I quickly learned that although I have many skills, I don’t enjoy doing them all and that I needed to build a team. That’s when I made the decision to develop a Virtual Assistant Agency. Since then, I’ve been able to replace my income from my previous job and enjoy the journey of helping others full time.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, it has been a very bumpy road. Along the way I have had to deal with clients that did not appreciate the work I put into their brands, team members that only wanted to tear me down, connecting with a business coach that didn’t understand that I was not an employee and was not building a coaching business as well as my husband suffering from a stroke which forced me back into the workforce. And to top it all off, I was still fighting that little voice in the back of my mind that keeps trying to tell me that I can’t do this.

But in the midst of all of that, I continued to grow my business.

After their initial discovery call our clients are usually fired up and excited about getting started because not only do they now have a team to help them but they also have a clear picture and strategy way beyond what they imagined. Another thing that makes me proud is that fact that every client we’ve ever had has sent the next one our way.

The thing that has set us apart from every other Virtual Assistant Company is the fact that you don’t just get a team to do the work for you. You get a team that helps you expand on your ideas and the strategy to execute it. Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
First and foremost, I have to give honor and praise to the most high because he has been the one that has kept me charging forward even when I wanted to give up. Second my amazing husband Ryan aka DJ RAW. He is and has been the most positive force behind me even when I’ve been the most spoiled and stubborn brat ever, lol. His strength and desire to live an abundant life has motivated me beyond my wildest dreams. Seeing this man go from not being able to speak and use the entire right side of his body to walking out of the hospital a week after having a stroke and not looking like he ever had one to this day shows me the true power of God and lets me know that we have so much more to give this world.

My mom, siblings and other family for their continued support sharing out my social media posts and sending clients my way. My myEcon family for teaching me the power of business ownership. Last but certainly not least, my virtual sisters Regina Renaye, Nakia Whittaker-Woody, Latoya Glenn, Latoya Bass, Diahn Ellis, Dominique Britt, Latoya Williams, Donna Snyder, Brenda Johnson, Tiffany Mason, Keshia Webb and so many more for the many virtual coworking sessions and collaborations of the years. I honestly don’t know what I would do without any of them. They all have played such huge roles in keeping me grounded and accountable for my success. I love them all with every ounce of me.
