Hi Lakshmi, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Art has always been a constant companion in my life. Growing up, I was surrounded by creativity, culture, and traditional Indian art forms that told stories far beyond words. Starting my formal training in the Indian classical dance form of ‘Bharatanatyam’ at the age of 7, art was never something external to me; it was a part of who I am. Movement, rhythm, and expression shaped my early years, and artistic creativity became my way of understanding the world.
My artistic journey led me to explore various traditional Indian art forms. Alongside my professional path, art remained my anchor as a safe space where I find solace and let my creativity flow. On this journey, I explored folk art from different regions, each with its own unique style and story. What struck me most however, was the shared intention behind them all: the desire to create something vibrant and meaningful, deeply connected to community and celebration. Passed down through generations, across cultures and geographies, art becomes a way to honor traditions, celebrate life and bring people together.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As I met artists and learned about these traditions, I began to see how connected people truly are across the world. Despite our differences, artistic creations are universal bonds. Art is also healing in a mesmerizing way. It calms, connects and opens conversations beyond what words can express.
This understanding gradually shaped my vision and led to the creation of Artuforia at Downtown Frisco – a contemporary space that takes you on stunning visual journeys to different parts of India by experiencing their art forms.

Watching individuals walk in, at first unsure of their abilities and then leave with confidence and joy is one of the most rewarding parts of this journey for me.
