Meet Lanny Ross Edwards of Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lanny Ross Edwards.

The Original Devil’s Bowl Speedway began in 1949, and was located in Dallas at John West & Buckner. In 1968, the speedway was moved to Mesquite on Lawson Rd, and was purchased by Lanny & Beverly Edwards in 1971.

The Devil’s Bowl Speedway is also birthplace to the premier sprint car series, World of Outlaws, aka; The Greatest Show on Dirt”. There have even been a few Indy & Nascar drivers that have raced at the Devil’s Bowl Speedway.

The legacy of Sprint Car Hall of Fame member, Lanny will continue as his wife Beverly, son Lanny Ross Edwards, and grandson Martin Edwards continue the tradition as innovators in bringing affordable dirt track racing entertainment to Texas race fans.

The Edwards racing family also own the Lawton Speedway in Lawton, OK, RPM Speedway in Crandall, TX, and are Co-Owners of the infamous Chili Bowl in Tulsa, OK, which is the largest indoor midget car race, attracting drivers from all over the world.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Times are much harder now. There are so many different things families can do for entertainment, it’s a challenge trying to attract new race fans.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Devil’s Bowl Speedway – what should we know?
We are most proud of our facility. The race track is always groomed, and race ready. The Devil’s Bowl Speedway isn’t your typical dirt track speedway. The speedway is clean, we have reserved seating with chair backs available, sidewalks, paved parking, handicap accessible, and the best concessions around including everything from a corn dog, to burritos, and tacos. Whether you are a race fan or not, it’s just a fun place to bring the family on a Saturday night.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
My Dad, the late Lanny Edwards, raised us all to work hard every single day. It was his dedication to this sport that made us all where we are today.
