Meet Larce Blake of Larce

Today we’d like to introduce you to Larce Blake.

Larce, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My love for music began at an early age in the late 90’s when I heard my Dad playing “Changes” by Tupac. At the time I was too young to understand the song from a lyrical standpoint, but what spoke to me was how the song sounded sonically, from the melodies and chord progressions. As I grew older, I was forced into piano lessons. Once I realized what I could do with the skill, I started recreating popular songs melodies and chords on my dingy casio keyboard and eventually came across the music production software FL Studio in 2008. Although I got my hands on music production at that time, it wasn’t until I graduated high school in 2013 that I started becoming fully committed to the art. So ever since then I’ve been spending as much time as possible on improving my skills as a producer and developing my skills as a musician/instrumentalist.

Has it been a smooth road?
Of course, there have been struggles. I would say the biggest one is staying encouraged to continue creating. Most creatives would agree that creative droughts can be very depressing because you feel like you’re never doing enough. Along with that I’ve been a full-time student at UT Dallas so balancing the art with academics can be very overwhelming.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am a Music Producer, I have a pretty versatile sound but I would definitely say I specialize in R&B music. The thing that I’m most proud of is that I can travel to different cities around the country to work with other like-minded producers and DJ’s.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Being a music producer in Dallas is honestly a great starting block. We have a very strong producer community and as long as you’re a genuine person, people will look out for you and throw opportunities your way. Dallas has a lot of music producers who are successful and are making a living solely off of music, so I would definitely say its a good starting place. There’s plenty of room for improvement, of course, we’re no LA or Atlanta but we can achieve what we want to get done working in the city. I could continue to go way deeper into why I believe this but it’d take all night lol.
