Today we’d like to introduce you to Lareecia Swiney.
Lareecia, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always had a passion for hair when I was younger. I used to always watch my mom style her clients, while I played with her manikin head. High school is where I started my hair journey, and I further it throughout college. My teammates were my models walking on campus and promoted my brand as ” Hair by Lu’ “. After college, I no longer was interested in the Nursing field, so I enrolled in cosmetology school at Ogle-Arlington. At that time, I renamed my brand to ” Lustyles “. I worked two full-time jobs while going to school. So, I knew that once I obtained my license, I didn’t want to work for anyone. With no loans and a lot of prayers, I opened a beauty salon with my big sister, Bri. We had very little business knowledge, but I think learning how to be a business owner was the best part. Nine months later, I quit my job to pursue my career as a hairstylist.
Has it been a smooth road?
The first few months were pretty rough. Paying bills was one of my struggles. I had to make a lot of sacrifices and eliminate some expenses in order to maintain my lifestyle. Also, my faith wasn’t where I needed it to be. When you work for yourself, you have to be self-motivated. My clientele was small, so I used social media and my website to draw more attention to myself. Once you remove fear out of the equation, you’re unstoppable.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Lustyles story. Tell us more about the business.
I am the CEO of Lustyles and co-owner of Bombshell Beauty Bar. I specialize in protective styles for natural hair, such as: braids, wigs, and extensions. I am proud of the growth of my brand over the past few months. I provide the hair in all of my services and promote hair growth. The first thing someone says when they sit in my chair is “I like how everyone on your page has their edges.”
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The beauty industry is related to health and retail, which are in the top 10 biggest industry inc bracket. I want to branch off more salons and also create a product line that can promote hair growth.
