Meet Larry Allen of Grand Spectrum Media in Mesquite

Today we’d like to introduce you to Larry Allen.

Larry, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
As a child, it has been my dream to leave my mark on the world through my passion for storytelling in the entertainment industry. My first love was music and quickly after that, I became infatuated with the nuances and intricacies of storytelling through film.

These two great artistic mediums have motivated me through my college career to become a legendary force within my chosen field. For me, film and music are not just mediums for entertainment, but also modes for expressing emotion and a message through my personal world view.

I was born in Dallas, although I’m originally from Mesquite, Texas, I was heavily influenced by Dallas’s culture. Which happens to be home to many iconic people such as Erykah Badu, Kirk Franklin, and Randye Rand a Manager for the NBA who specializes in Player Marketing. I’ve also been heavily influenced by certain individuals in the media industry that uses there art and platform as a way to enact change. From people like Jay-Z, Ava Duvernay, Charles King, and Donald Glover. Who use their talents to inspire the youth and use their abilities to create and inspire change as well.

I also follow younger creatives as well, like Michael Thomas who has a book out titled “Creative Against All Odds”, A book that gives great advice to young Black creatives, on how to be successful within the media industry. The work of the artists stated earlier have all contributed to my drive to integrate my love for film and music into one medium through my skill of filmmaking. I used my knowledge of film, and cinematography skills to direct, write, and produce my first short film entitled “OK Series.” That project also helped me receive the Mental Health Awareness Award in 2018. The short film highlighted the awareness of mental health in the Black Community and the dangers of self-medicating and drug use.

Through my time at Prairie View A&M University, I discovered the importance that technology plays in the media industry. There has currently been a progression within the media industry parallel to the technology industry

There happens to be an apparent need to understand how streaming and algorithms that can affect the future of media. With the right innovations, specialists can instantly update the public and consumers, with company news and product innovation. Digital marketing and technological innovations also allow for interactive communication between public relations representatives and consumers.

With my goals of being a future media conglomerate, I plan to acquire less developed media companies and raise their ratings and productivity, through hiring new curators of media, from all cultures and backgrounds. With the intent to stream their content in the number one market for media which is America.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The journey to understanding where my future was headed hasn’t always been clear. At first, I had an issue identifying the issues of the separations of power within the media industry. I’ve always known I wanted to advocate for people of disadvantaged backgrounds.

However, I had to figure out what avenue I would take to fulfill this task. As I studied the media industry, I quickly noticed an apparent issue, when it came to the representation of people of color not being able to be in control of their own narrative. This being due to the fact people of these backgrounds usually don’t have the resources to finance their own ideas. This inspired me with plans to run a successful media company, to be a positive influence within the communities that had economic and racial disadvantages through the avenues of art and finance.

This also contributed to the content we as a media company would finance. Due to the fact, the content financed and produced through our company is for the empowerment of the audience that takes the artistic experiences in. It’s also to progress the culture of those interacting with the films as an audience and to bring awareness to new narratives that can change the way, we see the world we live in.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Grand Spectrum Media – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I’m truly honored to present Grand Spectrum Media, a truculent media brand inclusive of all cultures globally, through creative innovation.” We create content, finance films, television shows, web content, innovative technologies, and brands that push to create avenues of opportunities universally for people of ethnic backgrounds. Through narratives that are relative and true.

After the creation our first short film titled “OK Series”, starring Justice Igunbor and Stevee Rodgers, which highlighted the awareness of mental health in the Black community, and the dangers of self-medicating, and drug use. This film was a testimony for me, it assisted in the company being honored within my hometown of Dallas, Texas. Recently I was awarded the “2018 Youth Mental Health Award” for the film “OK Series”. I was also invited to be a panelist during the 2019 Youth Mental Health Conference, this year later in September.
The creation of this film didn’t just humble me by bringing back to the community that raised me, but it also assisted in helping me work through my depression as well as my vices of self-medication.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
With goals of being a future media conglomerate, I plan to acquire less developed media companies and raise their ratings and productivity. Through hiring new curators of media, from all cultures and streaming their content in the number one market for media, which is America.

Also with the understanding of how powerful and influential the media industry can be, I’ve continued to establish plans of my own to be a positive influence within the community I’m from. As well as to all people no matter their race, sexuality, or religious background. I’m striving to create a better level of transparency between the messages being put out through the films and records from the artists I plan to finance, in the near future. While also creating avenues of communication through technology so journalist, artists, and content curators, can be in direct contact with critics and fans alike.
