Meet Larry Luby of HIS Publishing Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Larry Luby.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Larry. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Every Saturday morning, I met a group of eight men at a local Denny’s for breakfast and fellowship. One morning a new visitor joined our group. As he was telling us a little bit about himself, he addressed the group and said, “You know I’ve completed two books. I just hate it when people say, ‘I’m writing a book,’ but then never finish.”

My heart stopped as I watched eight sets of eyes turn their attention toward me. You see, I was one of those people who was always “writing the book” and never finishing one. Normally, I would advocate not to give into peer pressure, but, in this instance, having these men I liked and respected hold me accountable really encouraged me to finish this odyssey of a project.

From that day forward, I started waking up at 4:30 every morning. A fire had been lit within me and I was determined to complete this novel that had been my constant companion for so long. What motivated me the most was the thought of meeting those men every Saturday only to tell them when asked about this project, “No, not yet.”

Early in 2008, I completed and self-published Freedom from S.I.N., a book that I had been working on for over six years.

No different than the way those men at Denny’s motivated me to finish my book, soon there were other people in my life that were motivated to finish their projects due to my success. They began to ask if I could help them with their endeavors. A personal project that started at the heart of friendship and fellowship grew into a sustainable business. Now I assist others who are “writing the book” to help them fulfill their dream.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Even though I had started and built businesses in the past it is never easy writing a detailed business plan and determining how you are going to fund the venture. The main question I had to answer, “Is the digital marketplace going to replace the demand for physical books.” I have found that the physical book market has not only survived, but in some respects actually thrived.

HIS Publishing Group – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
HIS Publishing Group offers an incredible opportunity for writers of all kinds seeking independence and excellence, but desire to be part of something bigger.

We partner with the client to fulfill their dream from book concept through design and publication.

We have a passion for people and are always encouraging and challenging them to achieve greatness. Most of all we keep the process fun.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I produced a children’s book showcasing cut out dolls. Having never played with dolls it was quite challenging. The project required four different paper weights. Upon completion, seeing the joy on the client’s face was incredible.
