Today we’d like to introduce you to LaShirl Smith.
LaShirl, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve been involved in sports and entertainment publicity for more than 30 years. I started out as an assistant for a friend of mine who played for the Dallas Cowboys and everything grew from there. After several years of booking him into appearances and autograph signings, I decided to relocate to Los Angeles to try my hand in the entertainment industry. I was lucky enough to land a job with a top management company that was in need of a publicist for their clients. I had the opportunity to work with some great artists at that time, including Morris Day and The Time, Jody Watley and the late great George Michael, to name a few. After several years with the company, I decided to strike out on my own and as they say, ‘the rest is history’.
Throughout the year’s, I’ve been very blessed to work with some of today’s hottest entertainers and high-profile athletes throughout the industry. The business has been very prosperous; we have several divisions in the company, sports and music and we recently opened a Dallas office.
Has it been a smooth road?
The road is never smooth if you’re striving to be a successful entrepreneur, but fortunately, I’ve been able to tackle every challenge that has been put forth before me.
I would say the biggest struggle has been being a ‘female’ in a male-dominated business where most of the time, females are not taken seriously. Fortunately, now, there are many females who have entered the sports business, whether it be a publicist (such as myself), an executive in the front office to broadcasting (analyst, sideline reporters).

We are a small boutique PR agency that focuses on sports and entertainment publicity. We also create brand campaigns for our clients as well as event publicity for corporations and produce special events.
A few of our signature events include our Men’s Style Gifting Suite, which is catered to the male athlete, entertainer and influencer. It allows brands to participate and ‘gift’ all attendees with their product and attendees also receive ‘free’ personal grooming services such as massages, facials, mani/pedis, and barber services. Other special events that we produce include celebrity basketball tournaments, celebrity bowling tournaments, celebrity poker tournaments, football camps/academies and award show banquets to name a few.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is when you’ve worked so hard towards a goal and it produces a positive outcome. It could be either in business or personal, but if you feel you have given your all and you’re satisfied with the end results, then you’ve succeeded.
