Meet La’Teria Robinson of ScottyIsLikeYou in North Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to La’Teria Robinson.

La’Teria, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Who is Scotty? I am Scotty. My name is La’Teria Scotty Robinson. I was born on February 4th, my father’s birthday, and his name is Scottie Robinson. So that is where my middle name comes from. My nickname is Tee and that’s what everyone really knows me as.

ScottyIsLikeYou was an idea that came to me when I was in the process of figuring out the purpose God has for me. As a Christian woman and a firm believer of God, I believe God gives us all a purpose to fulfill during our time on this earth. His plan really never aligns with the plans we have for ourselves but if you know God, you know it is hard not to follow through with a vision He places on your heart. After praying and asking God to reveal to me what it is He wanted me to do, He told me to use my voice.

“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your father in Heaven.” Matthew 5:16. I never imagined being in a position to talk about my past experiences or struggles. As a friend of mine, you know that I’m extremely private. I’m reserved and I’m not a huge fan of someone having a lot of access to me or my business. When it comes to my personal life, I really don’t open up about anything until I actually need to talk to someone. I didn’t ask God to use my voice in this way, but he has. All I wanted to do was feel meaningful on earth. I wanted to feel like I was put here for a reason and I wanted God to use me. For the past two years, God has forced me to open up in many ways and it has been extremely uncomfortable. But in order to fulfill my purpose, being uncomfortable is one of the things I had to get used to. God has stretched me mentally and spiritually in order for me to get to this point. And I have grown a lot throughout this entire process.

“The highest human act is to inspire” – Nipsey Hussle. There is a purpose behind ScottyIsLikeYou and that is to inspire someone and let the reader know that they are not alone. God didn’t put us here on earth to walk alone. God specifically puts people in our path in order to walk with us and that is my purpose. ScottyIsLikeYou is self-explanatory. ScottyIsLikeYou is really like YOU. You aren’t the only one who has faced struggles and adversity in life. You aren’t the only one who has gone through life changes like losing friends or learning your self-worth. You aren’t in this alone and whatever you are going through, you can overcome it. You can come out of your situation, depression, slump, or insecurities so much stronger just by being inspired by someone else’s story. My story.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
“My thing is that I don’t give no person that much power over my path that I’m walking. Not one person can make or break what I’m doing, except me or God.” – Nipsey Hussle. ScottyIsLikeYou’s road is less traveled and this road has taught me a lot about myself. It’s taught me how to be patient, how to be consistent, and how to be confident no matter what. I am extremely PROUD of myself. I stepped out of my comfort zone and did something that I never imagined myself doing and I stuck with it. I’m proud of myself for building my website from the ground up. Being original and making sure my website looked like everyone else’s. Wow. Lol! ScottyIsLikeYou has been an active blog for the past year but it is now receiving heavy traffic and the list of subscribers is getting longer. When I first started blogging, I only sent my post to my friends and I only blasted the post on one social media outlet which was Twitter. It wasn’t until this year I begin posting my blog to not only Twitter but Facebook and Instagram as well. The thing with social media is, if you don’t have a HUGE following or if people don’t retweet or share your work, you won’t be noticed. Social media is about popularity. It’s a gift and a curse for most. Even though I do not have a big following on my social media platforms, I still continue to put my work out there no matter what. I didn’t start blogging to become popular or go viral. I started blogging to be used for a purpose. And that is what has allowed me to remain original and true to myself.

Intimidation and comparison is REAL and it can steal your joy from you IF you let it. There are A LOT of bloggers out here and when I first started, I was intimidated by them. A lot of bloggers receive support and praise from their friends or even strangers and depending on who you follow, you may be a witness to it. Not every friend of mine takes out the time to read my blog or share it, and that’s okay. I have a lot of friends and many associates but I have a close circle of friends. I never asked them to support me; they just did! My circle of friends have helped bring attention to my blog and they opened up the door for their followers to become readers and subscribers! And that’s just because they took the time out to read my blog and share it on their social media. I am extremely thankful for those friends and my sister!

If you haven’t noticed, I quoted Nipsey Hussle throughout this interview. I remember when I first started my blog. I was spiritually and mentally in a rough spot. There were a lot of things happening in my life. I remember when Victory Lap first dropped. I played that album daily to be inspired. Nipsey Hussle inspired me to take control over everything in my life. He inspired me to put action into every plan I had and to work hard for the life I want to live. I’m thankful for you Hussle.

“Instead of trying to build a brick wall, lay a brick everyday. Eventually, you’ll look up and you’ll have a brick wall.”- Nipsey Hussle. I can only imagine what doors will open for me as I continue to use myself to inspire others. I can only imagine how far my voice will take me. But to be honest, if I can reach at least one person by sharing my story, I’m content. ScottyIsLikeYou isn’t the only thing you will know me by. You will learn more about me, in the near future. Stay tuned!

Please tell us about ScottyIsLikeYou.
I am my business! LOL! Even though ScottyIsLikeYou is not an actual company/business, it is my passion, I have always loved to create, read, and write. Bringing my hobbies and talents together to use my gift and walk in my purpose makes everything about ScottyIsLikeYou worthwhile.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
To be honest, my favorite childhood memory is getting my first job at 15 years old. By that time, of course, I wasn’t a child and was more like a teenager. But getting my first job, making my own money, and learning how to become independent is my favorite childhood memory. Being independent at a young age has taken me so far in life. I have accomplished SO MUCH in my life by having faith in God and having a hustle mentality.
