Today we’d like to introduce you to Latisha Shorter.
Latisha, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My dad and I were best friends and workout partners. Considered us to be quite fashionable by our peers and friends, we slowly began talking to each other about our dreams and goals during out workout sessions. 15th & Glam was born from a conversation between us. It would be one of a kind clothing line that would represent both fitness and fashion, our shared passions.
My dad had big ideas for 15th & Glam. He was excited to see our brand flourish, and that excitement spread to me too. However, he was stolen away before that dream could come true. My father was tragically murdered, and his death was the devastating reality that I had to deal with alone. Working out was no longer a passion because I was missing a major piece. Depression, fear, loneliness, and heartbreak became my new reality. Those feelings of depression are something I battled for the next several years.
As time went on, I began going to therapy and eventually found joy in working out again. While working out, I realized just how unhappy I was with the workout clothing. The style, the fit, the material, none of it was quite what I wanted it to me. I was reminded of the conversations and plans my dad and I had, and the spark was reignited. He couldn’t see 15th & Glam come to life, but I could do it for him. 15th & Glam represents strength and determination to never give up on yourself. It represents the love I have for my dad and his passion. His story was ended too quickly. 15th & Glam would continue it for him.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, the road to starting my company was not easy by far. I endured many moments of self-doubt along the way. Learning to balance my career, motherhood, losing my dad all while trying to build my company and create generational wealth was not an easy task. Actually, it still isn’t but faith, determination and patience is what’s getting me through it all.
