Meet LaTrice Cooper of Pierre’s Cup Corner in Arlington

Today we’d like to introduce you to LaTrice Cooper.

LaTrice, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
In 2015, I lost my only biological brother. That was one of the hardest things for me. I am not a person who likes to talk about my feelings, so instead, I decided to use a creative outlet. That is when I was introduced to crafting. I started just by painting wooden letters with different designs and slowly moved into “blinging” letters. I started making cups in 2019. Though I love all things crafty, cups are what keeps me going. I love being able to take a blank silver cup and make it into something special for someone. Long story short, my passion for crafting, specifically making cups was birthed from a place of pain to use as a creative outlet.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Starting your own business is never a smooth road. There will always be some things that pop up along the way or things that will cause you to lose focus. One of the struggles I had was a lack of motivation. When things I would try didn’t work out the way that I planned, I would get discouraged. To overcome that struggle, I had to realize that practice makes perfect and I would not grasp everything as quickly as I did others. Another struggle with starting a small business is time management. On top of running my small business, I work full time and I am a full-time student in a master’s program. I quickly had to learn the importance of prioritizing everything in my life. I also had to learn not to overload myself in order to please others. I want to deliver quality products so, in order to do that, I have to make sure that I have adequate time to get the job done.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
Pierre’s Cup Corner is a personalized cup making business. I specialize in making insulated cups special and unique to each individual customer that I come across. I make sure that the cups I provide are unique in design and I use top quality materials to complete every order. What makes me most proud is that all of my products are handmade. Here at Pierre’s, I make sure to listen to every customer’s wish and I do my best to make it come true.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
My definition of success is achieving a goal with the next one in mind. For example, once I feel myself getting close to reaching a goal, I will start working on what I would want the next one to be. This way, once one goal is complete, I will have another one to start working towards. This keeps me from becoming too comfortable and it stretches me to do more and to go further. Once I feel myself getting lazy or starting to do things mechanically without thinking about it, it becomes time for me to start working towards something else.
