Meet Laura Flanagan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Flanagan.

Hi Laura, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Three years ago, I was the recipient of one of these awesome signs and I remember how special I felt that day. One afternoon, while perusing social media posts, I saw that one of my former teammates from SMU had described a cool learning opportunity for her high school business students. She showed them how to build a small business from start to finish. I inquired about whether she was planning on franchising and she was in the process of considering it. Just days later, I got a call from her with an opportunity for me to take part in this business. I didn’t hesitate and jumped on board!

I’m currently a fourth-grade teacher and varsity coach by day and soccer mom and yard carding queen by night! I have loved bringing joy to peoples’ lives, particularly during this pandemic. There’s a creative component involved and it fills my cup every time I stand back and relish the handiwork. Smiles for days, thinking about what the faces of my customers will look like in the morning when they see their “Gift of Words,” as I like to call them. My children and husband have been very supportive, despite the fact that I’ve taken over the garage with inventory!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
For the most part, it has been a relatively smooth road. With starting any business, your executive functioning skills need to kick into high gear, particularly organization. The hardest part about it is when I have multiple yards in one evening, as it can be physically taxing. It’s certainly not a bad way to get the extra exercise!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in vibrant, colorful, personalized yard card displays! I’m known for my attention to detail and tend to lean toward the most polished final product. I’m extremely proud of that final product, as it truly is a work of art upon completion. The texts, calls and e-mails from customers are affirmations the job was well done. I also love my community and enjoy making connections. The number of new friends I’ve made is awesome!

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I have loved Lysa Terkeurst’s The Best Yes, which really focuses on helping you understand that sometimes saying “No” to things that don’t serve you is the “Best Yes”, The Richest Man in Babylon by George S. Clason guides you on a smart path toward financial management and You are a Badass by Jen Sincero is just a “kick in the pants” wake-up call of words to celebrate who you are and where you’re going!

Pricing:

  • Yard cards begin at $80
  • $25 extra per day
