Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Helena Perez.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Laura Helena. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am from Monterrey, Mexico I moved from my townhome at the age of 13 years old with no knowledge of the language. I have resided in Arlington, Texas, since 2002 and went to Lamar High School from 2003-2007. During my high school years, I was presented with the opportunity to enter a Cosmetology program based on interviews and essays. Only 50 students were chosen during the end of sophomore year to start the program entering junior and finishing the senior year. This was a school funded program I didn’t have to pay for anything, not even the practical or written test. My profession was never a dream of mine at the beginning, but my family and I saw it as an opportunity to have some job after high school.
At the age of 19, I got married and had my first child. She was only three months when I started my career as a stylist for a chain company, seven years later, I divorced. I stayed at this chain company for several years and went back to school, not knowing if I want it to stay in this industry. I want to be able to provide for my daughter. I also had the opportunity to manage a store for them in Fort Worth, Texas. After two years of managing for them, I realized that I want it more and improve myself and my services for my customers, so I left and tried out other companies.
About two years ago, I was blessed with a second little girl and gained a stepdaughter. After having my second child, I decided to get my barber license and focused on what I have done for 12 years now. I want it to focus more on getting my clients high quality and detail work. I believed I am a very well rounded barber I love being able to provide them with an exceptional atmosphere and customer service. I am happy to be able to provide this atmosphere at The Garage Men’s Grooming Mansfield.
I am happy with my accomplishments, but I want more. I am currently enrolled at TCC Community college about to finish the end of this semester with a Fine Arts Associates and transferring to UTA of Arlington hopefully by the end of summer to work on my Business Degree. I strongly believe now that continuing education is a key element to pursuit my dreams and to ensure the future of my family.
Has it been a smooth road?
Language barrier, being bullying at school, the extended family didn’t want to support us, my dad had two to three jobs, so my mom didn’t have to work and stayed with us while we were in school. We were illegal but didn’t cross the border illegally. As a family and individually had many obstacles, but we have done very well for ourselves.

The Garage Men’s Grooming is a local business that was born in 2017 in Burleson, Texas. The Garage Men’s Mansfield has been open now for ten months and is doing awesome. We specialize in men’s and boy’s cuts. We provide a variety of services our classic haircut provides a haircut with a nape razor shave, shampoo with a hot towel and a head massage and style if desire, buzz cuts, face shaves, neck shoulder massages, facials, beard trims, waxing services and color services. We also have complimentary drinks beers, sodas, water and whiskey.
At The Garage Men’s Grooming, we provide our costumers with exceptional customer service, attention to detail haircut, and a professional environment. I believe that there is no competitor around our area that can provide the atmosphere we have at The Garage.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I not sure if I understand this question, but I think any city has potential by selecting the right location and having the right people to provide exceptional service.

- tune up pakage: everything included in the classic haircut with an addition of a 10 min neck shoulder massage and a facial for $50
- Facials: includes clensing, scubing, mask and musturizer with hot towels in between for $15
- Full Facial shaves for $30
- Neck shoulder massage for $1 a minute
