Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Heymann.
Laura, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I knew I wanted to be a graphic designer ever since working on my high school newspaper, but until I could make that happen, I worked a ton of jobs during high school and college… as a table busser, waitress, worker in mall retail stores, babysitter/nanny, etc. Professionally, I began interning at magazines when I was 20 and would do anything they needed, from errands to editing, making copies, making coffee, meeting prep, direct mail, ad sales – you name a role in the publication industry and I’ve probably held it, whether officially or unofficially.
After studying journalism at UT Austin and working in the magazine and newspaper industries for several years across Austin, Las Vegas, and Dallas, I started my own graphic design business in 2009 and the rest is history!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth as in perfect? Not at all. But every day that I’ve worked for myself is a day I would be unwilling to trade for anything else. I have wildly chaotic days and occasionally a slow day here and there. Owning your own business is an ebb and flow, but I love it.

Green Apple Lane is a graphic design firm that specializes in fresh, clean design – we create logos, social media graphics, print collateral, signage, and websites, for example. We are proud to work with businesses all over the country!
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Integrity is paramount. At its core, any business is basically just about the product or service you offer and how you treat people. I’m especially proud of the design work we produce, the simple and transparent way we conduct business, and our strong client relationships.
