Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Abeyta.
Lauren, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Throughout my career in ediscovery, legal recruiting, information management, and emerging technologies one thing has remained the same: my goal is always to be the “go-to” for my clients; the person they could call day or night who would always help solve the problem by drawing on my expertise and vast network within the legal industry.
In 2016, after many years of witnessing many corporate legal departments frustrated with the lack of transparency in the ediscovery industry and many not having a ‘right hand’ to help steer them through this critical and convoluted phase of litigation, I founded Ascension Legal Consulting. My consulting firm allows me to serve as an unbiased advisor to General Counsel and law firms in an effort to efficiently and effectively take control of the e-discovery process.
By leveraging my ediscovery expertise, litigation experience and vast network, I am able to develop the best plan of action with a focus on cost savings and transparency. I work alongside outside counsel to put their strategy into action, in addition to managing the vendors, budget and overall execution of the ediscovery phase. With Ascension, I have effectively taken the crystal ball out of the ediscovery process and replaced it with a concise roadmap.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No. I created a business model that did not previously exist in my industry, and had a long road of business development and pitching ahead of me when I opened my doors in January of 2016. I had to retrain the thought process of corporations, who had difficulty seeing my value proposition since my services were so new in the marketplace.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Ascension Legal Consulting – what should we know?
After observing our clients experience the same problems when facing ediscovery — excessive fees, poor client service and lack of accountability — the solution to these problems became clear: In-house counsel and boutique firms need an ediscovery go-to, a trusted advisor to take a client-centered and unbiased approach.
Ascension Legal Consulting owns the ediscovery process on behalf of our clients, enabling outside counsel to focus on case strategy. We steer the ediscovery phase with no surprises; we provide clients with a simple and streamlined plan of attack, hold vendors accountable and drive projects forward.
Our approach saves clients time and money. Our goal is to select the highest quality service providers while providing transparency every step of the way via seamless project management and clear communication.
We are most proud of our commitment to remaining unbiased, and only working on behalf of our clients–never accepting a referral of “kickback” from the vendors we recommend. We think this speaks to our integrity and commitment to our clients’ success.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
There are many people who have supported me along the way–namely 3 clients in particular who helped me get my start, my family, and of course my crime-fighting husband who didn’t even blink when I told him I was quitting my corporate job to go out on my own.
