Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Archibald.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Lauren. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Photography was my passion as I was growing up. I almost always had a camera in my hands as a toy which eventually led up to owning Archie’s Views Photography. I didn’t think to start taking photos on a professional level till the day of my cousin’s wedding. I was a guest, but there was a few pictures that I was proud of and that’s when it felt like a light bulb had gone off. Photography was my calling. It wasn’t easy getting to where I am today. I’m still learning and gaining new skills as I go along. I take my camera most everywhere I go since I never know what I might take a photo of next. Most who know me can tell you about the large black backpack-style camera bag I almost have never leave my side. I am currently a student at Southern New Hampshire University in the process of a Bachelor’s degree in Digital Photography with a minor in business so I can ensure that Archie’s Views turns up a success.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road hasn’t been easy. Photography isn’t a cheap adventure. With funds needed for buying a DSLR camera that isn’t a point and shoot towards funds for a studio rental from time to time or even getting props or insurance. The hardest, but greatest struggle was getting my name out into the world after I had registered my business in the Lone Star State of Texas. In March of 2017, I had two of my images from a Florida trip with my mother, published in Indie Soilel. I haven’t had any other work published yet, but I know there are other great photographers out there that worked hard to get published.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Archie’s Views Photography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Archie’s Views does a little bit of everything except for large scale events and large weddings that will require a second shooter to capture all the amazing stuff going on. Senior sessions is my specialty mostly due to the wonderful help of my youngest sister, Sydney, and her best friend, Kimi, for helping me practice many many times to ensure I create great quality work. It isn’t everyday that you graduate from school. I have branched out towards other sessions as well. Such as some children sessions which my kids Cecilia and Benjamin help with, family sessions, sports, pets and landscaping. I am currently learning how to work with newborns and maternity outside a studio setting and as my own independent company instead of just my experience from working at Portraits in Minutes before they shut down and at their sister company The Picture People before I gave birth to my second child.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plans for the future is to eventually have a studio location for those times when the weather is nasty or I need a controlled environment such as when doing business headshots or freshly born newborns who might have sensitive skin against the harsh sun. I know that this road won’t be easy, but it is one of my biggest goals apart from graduating SNHU with my degree.
