Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Dunn
Hi Lauren , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have worked in the helping field since 2009 in a variety of capacities. I knew since my freshman year of college I wanted to be a counselor. After graduating from TCU in 2008, I started working for MHMR in 2009 on a mobile crisis outreach team and later as an intensive case manager walking alongside individuals struggling with severe mental illness (SMI) and addiction issues. I have had the privilege of working with people at very difficult places in their life. During graduate school I counseled children and adolescents at a foster home and saw male and female inmates at a local jail. I began working for a private practice in Dallas and Fort Worth from
2015-2023. During that time I worked closely with our other therapists on the treatment team and had extensive training in DBT. I started my own practice in 2023 with my husband in Fort Worth, TX.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think anything worth doing does not come easy. It takes effort and perseverance. After starting a family, and my father passing away in 2017, I felt motivated to make my pain have a purpose. We all have to endure hardships that are unavoidable. Learning how to navigate life challenges and bumps in the road has been an opportunity that has helped me strengthen my faith and continue to grow as a person.
Every part of my career has taken a step of faith and there have been challenges all along the way. I think the key continues to be to lean into my faith, to not give up, practice gratitude, and to focus on what the challenge is teaching me.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Our practice operates from a Christian world-view integrated in with other evidenced-based therapeutic practices. We can supervise other therapists who are earning hours on their way to becoming fully licensed.
I specialize in working with trauma, addiction, anxiety, and I am certified in EMDR. My husband specializes in couples and marriage counseling, and pornography addiction. We have recently expanded and added more team members in order to provide additional services to people seeking support.
We have extensive experience working with individuals in crisis, and those experiencing very difficult situations in their life. We love collaborating with other professionals to help better support our clients treatment goals. I am proud of our ability and desire to meet people where they are at. We offer counseling, consultation services for other professionals who want to grow their business, and supervision for clinicians.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
We have to take healthy risks in order to create change in our lives and grow. For example, being self employed and starting a practice is a risk in order to reach a long term goal. We also take risks such being vulnerable with others to cultivate relationships, or pursing goals to work towards what we desire in our lives.
Differentiating unhealthy risks from healthy ones is imperative. Unhealthy risks can be impulsive and cause harm, where healthy risks move us toward growth and change.
