Today we’d like to introduce you to Leann Maxwell.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Leann. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Born into a family of educators, I got an early start working as a student peer advisor at the University of Texas at Austin. Over the next 15 years, my career would include working as a middle school teacher, a theater teacher, a leadership teacher, a special education teacher, a school librarian, and an academic advisor at both UT and Texas Christian University. For the last five years, as an independent academic coach for college students, I’ve discovered that my most important work is listening to clients and being a partner to them. I’ve watched individuals’ small, consistent efforts add up to big changes.
As a certified professional coach, I act as a guide, through attentive listening and intuitive questioning, to help clients discover the answers already within them. While transitions can make us feel overwhelmed or lost, having a professional coach to partner with offers guidance in finding the best way forward. Many clients find that a simple shift in perspective can help.
Has it been a smooth road?
This has not always been a smooth journey. When I’m working with clients, one-on-one coaching sessions or public speaking engagements, I feel great! However, getting those clients and speaking engagements can be difficult. Getting my message out to my niche audience can be a challenge. I know I’m good at what I do and my clients see success, but I struggle with putting myself out there.
Like my clients, I still deal with confidence and self-doubt. I think that’s what makes me good at what do because I’m not out here saying I have it all figured out. I still struggle, but the difference is that I know those struggles don’t define me. That’s what I want my clients to know. You will struggle through your transitions, but you don’t have to let those struggles paralyze or define you.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Panther City Partners story. Tell us more about your work.
Helping others succeed has been my lifelong passion and profession. I believe that you are the expert in your own life; through asking the right questions, I can help you navigate from a struggle to an aha moment to a plan of action. I work one-on-one and with groups to help people tap into a growth mindset during times of transition. Life is all about choices. If you find you’re not living the life you want, you can make a change. As a partner on your journey through life’s transitions, we engage in the hard work of discovery together.
From a simple shift in perspective to a realignment of your mindset to overcoming your inner critic, I’m here to be your partner throughout the process. Panther City Partners helps clients see things differently, in order for them to overcome challenges, establish and meet goals all while staying authentic to themselves. Life’s transitions are constant. I’m going through them, too. I use my own stories of transition to put clients at ease. It’s important to help clients realize they’re challenges don’t set them apart from others, but instead make them part of something larger than themselves. We’re all in this together, and we’ll only get through it if we create meaningful partnerships to navigate challenges together.
What role has luck (good luck or bad luck) played in your life and business?
Luck has played a huge role in my business. I do believe my skills and education have contributed to my success, but not more than luck. I’m lucky to have been given the opportunity to get that education, meet the right people, and be in the right place at the right time as I grow my business and in my life. I’ve had good luck in love and life, and because of that, I look for the good in all situations. As my son just pointed out to me, I do work hard and persist, so some may see my accomplishments as only products of those traits, but I know luck has a lot to do with it. Luck turns hard work and persistence into success.
