Meet Leanna Rae of Kid’s Brain Tree in Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leanna Rae.

Leanna, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Kid’s Brain Tree was inspired by my journey as a mother. My first-born son had significant challenges in his first few years of life that spanned from his inability to hit his developmental milestones, lack of emotional regulation and difficulty with learning and processing sensory input. Yet, when life presents a challenge – you find the inner resources within you that rises up to meet it.

For me, as a therapist, I knew that simply redirecting and managing behaviors wasn’t what would get to the root of this dysregulation. I began to train with giants in the field of brain integration, and I stand on their shoulders to further the methods and philosophy in how we can best support the growth of children physically, emotionally and academically.

Today, Ethan is thriving and growing in a way that honors who he is. He will always have his quirks, but he is now equipped to handle challenges in life.

Has it been a smooth road?
My road has been filled with stepping stones that created a pathway to where I am today. Each challenge pointing me in the direction I needed to go and informing me of my next step. When it comes to how we educate and help support children’s growth and development there are so many wonderful people, methods, modalities, and organizations who all do amazing work.

When I began, I was an independent therapist and coach working out of an office on Camp Bowie. It was difficult to be isolated and without a community to truly support what I knew was larger than just myself.

Joining the Center for the Healing Arts, where Kim Perrone has brought together many different holistic therapies such as acupuncture and herbal therapy was a significant step in my journey and provided me an additional support system. Each time I thought it was too much and I wanted to give up I would see my Ethan, how he had transformed utilizing these therapies, and I would connect back to my “Why” and take the next step.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Kid’s Brain Tree – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Many programs today are designed around managing symptoms while our Kid’s Brain Tree program is designed to address the root issues, which will ultimately have a great impact on the symptoms parents are seeing. We meet with each family to hear their story.

The story of who their child is and who they are as a family is important. We then collaborate with our team to initiate services that best meet you and your child’s needs. My co-founders Maxine Haller OTR/ L, creator of the Haller Method and Brenda Laurent (a giant in the brain training field) share the same vision of creating programs that support the roots of development and physiology of learning in order to help children and families thrive.

The struggles we are seeing with children and families are different than what we saw even 5 years ago. One of the most prevalent issues we are seeing is anxiety. Stress and anxiety are negatively affecting their test taking, academic functioning as well as social interaction that is isolating children and their physical health.

Kid’s Brain Tree provides neurodevelopmental tools for growth and learning. We blend education, occupational therapy, holistic practice, integrative medicine, psychiatry, and emotional healing work via never-before-seen collaborations. Our engaged experts actively review best practices and implement tried-and-true approaches to help our families function better, faster.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the heart and kindness of the people in our communities. I believe we are all striving to provide the best resources and support for our children and families. What do I like the least? The road construction 😉
