Meet Leighton Fields

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leighton Fields.

Leighton, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I grew up around very musics parents. My mother was a touring gospel artist, and lead worship at our church. My father played guitar for a rock band in the 70s and was a multi-instrumentalist. I never had the patience to take lessons, but I always had the inspiration around me. I picked up bass guitar at nine, and electric guitar at 12. By age 13 I was auditioning for a Christian metal band and got the part. On the side, I started writing my own acoustic music and releasing on MySpace/pure volume/etc… It took a long time to find my voice, considering all the different genres I was around, and loved growing up. After years of playing in country bands, I set off in 2016 to pursue music that I loved, and landed in East Dallas, playing soul/songwriter/rock, with mindless years of drug abuse, relationships, and living in a minivan to write about.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
That’s a pretty relative question. Looking back, it seems like it’s been generally smooth, but remembering specific seasons in my life, absolutely not.

My major struggles revolve around my faith and walking away from it, falling into drug addiction, and just…..debauchery to the fullest. I guess it all boiled down to having misaligned priorities, that severely damaged my music career.

What else should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from others?
I’m a musician/singer/songwriter. I specialize in doing everything I can to alter your emotional state, and make you feel even a small portion of what I’ve experienced, and felt. I guess I’m most known for slower paced lover songs, heartbreak lyrics, and soulful voice. I’d have to say that I’m most proud to still be out here doing it. It certainly could have been easily given up at times.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
As far as my industry goes…I remember even as a kid, I just wanted to make a living playing music. THATS the success. To survive on what you love. Am I doing what I love? Yes. Are the ends meeting? Yes (most of the time) Am I happy? Absolutely yes.
