Today we’d like to introduce you to Leora Cowart.
Leora, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My journey started over ten years ago as a substitute teacher at Christene C. Moss Elementary School in Fort Worth, Texas. This is where I found that I was born to teach! I was challenged like never before in my life, but I loved it. I loved the fast pace, being creative, the staff, and most of all teaching the students. I worked there in different capacities until I finished my degree and took the TExES test for teachers. I will forever be grateful for the opportunity, mentor-ship, and love I received at C.C. Moss Elementary school. Then I got my first teaching job as a third grade teacher at Bill J. Elliott Elementary for three years. I have had the honor of teaching in private school, and co-opts, and variety of grade levels, all these experiences lead me to open Learning Well academy. Though out my teaching career I come across many students not able to perform on their grade level. Some students were many reading and math grade levels behind. I always wondered how students achieved these learning gaps in their education. Until I taught kindergarten and my light bulb went off. I soon learn that zero to five years are the beginning foundation for that child academic career. The following year I opened Learning Well Academy and made a commitment to provide high quality early education for ages 18 months to 5 years old…
Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been easy transitioning from a teacher to entrepreneur, but it is very rewarding. My husband and I have put in many hours learning state laws, developing curriculum, hiring, creating and kid environment, marketing strategies, etc. The most difficult part is educating adults about the importance of early education and getting people to view early education teachers as teachers and not baby sitters.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Learning Well Academy – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We are an early education center that is committed to providing a safe, loving, high quality early education to the ages 18 months to 5 years of age. I am the most proud of creating an environment where we can teach to a child’s spiritual needs, social and emotional development, but also expose our students to Spanish, music, cooking, and high level of academics, Our core belief is that every child can learn will learn ,and wants to learn.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
My husband and I are originally from California, but my husband received military orders the Naval Air Station Joint Reserve in Fort Worth, Texas. We have been here over eleven years and we love being here. Our least favorite thing is the weather, because it is forever changing.
