Today we’d like to introduce you to Lerin Lockwood.
Lerin, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am a high school art teacher and coach in Texas. While coaching, I caught a softball that flattened my new engagement ring into my hand and knocked out a diamond I never found. I made a keychain container (the Lion Latch) to hold my rings and after much interest from the other teachers, coaches and my athletes, I took to Kickstarter and raised 14.5k to have the Lion Latch manufactured in Dallas, Texas. Since my Kickstarter in 2015, the Lion Latch has been on The View and Good Morning America. This past March, I actually got to go on GMA’s segment Deals and Steals to demo my product live on national TV.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Not at all. I am a self-taught entrepreneur and still a full-time teacher, mom and wife. It’s hard to juggle it all sometimes, but I keep telling myself it will soon all be worth it and that keeps me going.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Lion Latch story. Tell us more about the business.
There is NOTHING on the market like the Lion Latch. I developed the product, planned and promoted a successful Kickstarter, found a manufacturer, and grew my business on my own. I’m most proud I got to be on GMA and sold out of my initial inventory. I’m from Irene, Texas – a tiny town of 30 people and I’m making my dream come true.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t think it’s luck. I think it’s God leading me. I often pray for God’s guidance on my business journey and thank Him for my successes.
