Meet Leslie Barrows of Barrow Firm, P.C. in Southlake, Tarrant County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leslie Barrows.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My parents reared me to have a serving heart. While in college I volunteered answering a sexual abuse hotline for women. I continued helping women who were abused and then started helping legal aid draft protective orders for women who were victims of family violence. I held their hands at the hospital, I picked them up and transported them to the courthouse, and even donated my time on the weekends serving in the confidential safe house shelter.

Their lives were so different than mine and I wanted to help them. My parents would worry about me, but I told them everything would be fine. I attended law school in Oklahoma City and interned at legal aid in the family law division. I was the first in my family to graduate from law school. Neither of my parents graduated from college. After graduating from OCU School of Law I moved back home to Southlake, Texas to help the Small Business Administration process hurricane disaster loans for Katrina victims. After the disaster loans were processed, I started my own law office out of my house in Southlake after having our first son. I send out advertisement letters to people who received traffic tickets. I really had no guidance on how to grow my business. I continued growing my law practice while building a family with my husband, Jeff, who is also an entrepreneur with an IT and video production company.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I can’t say it has been a totally smooth road, as any business owner would tell you, but for the most part I stayed with it and am where I am today. I learned hard lessons, but I will never forget those lessons. It can’t be said that losing is negative because the lessons you learn from those challenges help to put perspective into place which only adds to an overall positive approach to your goals.

I am thankful my parents gave me strength and confidence which also helped me as a woman in today’s business. Never place a limit on yourself!

Networking is a crucial key, too. Building your reputation among peers and making friends along the way is essential to a well-run business and fun, too!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Barrow Firm, P.C. – what should we know?
Barrows Firm, P.C. is a law firm specializing in Family, Criminal, Juvenile Criminal, Probate, Estate Planning, CPS, and Mental Health matters,

Originally, I began my business by representing individuals with traffic tickets. Our firm expanded from that small niche and we are able to assist our clients with varied fields of representation now.

Our law firm’s mantra is “Family Matters,” and it absolutely covers all of the fields in which we specialize. Many people do not realize how much this affects not only themselves, but their families, too. Addressing all facets of a matter assists our clients to deal with challenges because we center on respect, communication, knowledge of the law, and our clients’ emotions and fears, thus tackling their legal issues head on.

Also, I am appointed by the Courts to represent clients in CPS and Mental Health matters. Let’s face it, these are our overlooked brothers and sisters who suffer with mental health issues, children whose environments are not allowing them to grow up with the potential they deserve as human beings. It is important to me that these men, women and children have a voice and are legally represented as they should be, to the highest degree.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I have been described as down to earth and honest. Each of us well know that honesty instantly puts a person at ease. An honest, forthright person makes a person feel you can tell the truth and be accepted, that your matter will be handled in a professional, confident, positive manner. Those who are honest and forthright with me have my respect, so I practice the same with my clients. It builds long lasting relationships and friendships I’ve learned.
