Meet LeTitia Owens of Where Are You? Outreach in North

Today we’d like to introduce you to LeTitia Owens.

After being homeless herself, LeTitia decided to use her vocal ability to uplift the homeless and the less fortunate. After realizing there were so many people that just needed to know they were thought of, the Lord gave her the song: Where Are You? (Written and performed by her and Fred Hammond) LeTitia is committed to using her gifts to bring awareness to the world that there are people who feel abandoned and alone on a daily basis and are seeking hope and a hand. Her prayer is after you hear the words to her song you will not only be inspired but commit to serving those in need. The Homeless outreach she organized puts homelessness on blast through ministry and exposes the severe crisis families and individuals are in. The goal is to provide living and locations for them to go and receive adequate resources. LeTitia’s gift of interior design has also allowed her and volunteers the opportunity to re-design shelters and is making way to build a few with her organization. She realizes she may not be able to totally eliminate homelessness, but she is willing to shake the world and get others involved in solving the problem unyielding.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road has definitely not been smooth. Just when you think you are making progress, there is a stumbling block before you to prolong the progress. Getting officials and individuals who have the authority to make change appear to be the road block due to the lack of priority for the Homeless. Individuals have to realize the return on the investment is transformation, not currency.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Where Are You? Outreach – what should we know?
Our organization thrives on the disbursement of love and dignity. Each month we create a different themed event where we randomly pick up the Homeless from the street and transport them to an incredible restaurant where we roll out the red carpet and shower them with honor and greatness. There are many volunteers who make each of the Homeless feel special and appreciated. The Homeless receive great food, amazing entertainment, and a free shopping experience with a personal shopper to assist them.

We are most proud of the lives we are able to touch by restoring hope and providing whatever resources we can. What sets us apart is the gift of love we provide to each person we serve. Some of our past Homeless friends have returned to volunteer due to the joy they received from our team.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
We are truly grateful for Percy Bryant III because he introduced me to Desmond Patterson and Dewayne Bryant who own the restaurant and event space “Ten Eleven Grill”. Dewayne and Desmond along with Dewayne’s wife Candra allow our organization to provide an event every month for the Homeless since we don’t have our own event space. We have partnered with Ten Eleven Grill for five years now. There are not enough words to express our gratitude, however we are truly thankful for their kindness and compassion. My husband John Wayne Owens also known as JWayne is my right hand. He makes sure that the Homeless are transported safely and he takes such good care of them. JWayne provides the utmost individual care to each person to ensure their safety and a comfortable experience.

Portia Washington is our executive event planner and she regularly provides the ultimate hospitality. Lawrence Suldon III is our photographer who captures all of the incredible moments we’ve shared over the years to tell our testimonies. Ray Clark (DJ RC) provides the music which creates the atmosphere of a calming ambiance where our guest are able to relax. Tonya Alexander manages the food and the distribution of it which creates a room full of satisfied people who are thankful. Our volunteers make it all work. The elephant sized hearts they have are outstanding. The teamwork is the key to our success.
