Today we’d like to introduce you to LeVenn.
LeVenn, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Well, to start off, I’m originally from Kansas City, Missouri where things get ugly. I remember growing up, I and my brothers would always create songs and beats with the instruments we had and performed them at every family reunion and every family event. I never looked at like “oh, I could make a living out of this,” it was always just and “oh, this is fun, I like doing this.” Then, around 2013, I moved here to Texas with my family and ironically, I moved right next door to this Dj who wanted me to be a voice tag for her tracks, this is where it really all started with the music, I would go over there every day and vibe and freestyle on different tracks she created. She started introducing me to different musically inclined people around the DFW which locked me in. Around 2015, I ended up getting in a little artist development deal which didn’t go so well and ended up locking at least 100 of my recorded songs I had created with them. 2017 rolls around and I am now an Indie artist here in Arlington, Tx with music that I own ALL rights to on ALL platforms.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Honestly, being the oldest in my family and just the expectations that my parents held for me as far as the
“Go to college, get a REAL career,” it really hindered me because out of respect, I felt like I should do what they expect of me because it was always a “You need to make that your Plan B”. I wasn’t happy… I wasn’t satisfied with paying for classes to attend to do something I knew I wasn’t passionate in. Although I graduated and received and degree; it literally took me until I was 22 years old to realize “I’m about to start living for myself now.”
Please tell us more about what you do, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a Female R&B singer before anything. I also rap and write songs. But my expertise is most definitely creating music. I’ve recently got in tune with my “modeling” side. I’ve been shooting with a couple of different local photographer friends that boosting me into doing that seeing how I somewhat have a sense for fashion. But besides what you can see on the outside, the music I feel is something you listen to when you want to forget about the regular world when you want to feel like you’re in a different place. From the sound to the lyrics.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, because literally, everything that has happened in my life has shaped me into who I am today and I appreciate and accept each up and down I have encountered.
