Meet Lidia Dalida of Dalida Bellydance in Plano

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lidia Dalida.

Lidia, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born in St. Petersburg, Russia. I danced from the age of 6 – started with ballet, jazz modern, folklore, flamenco, and in year 2000 I started my journey in Belly Dance. I found my first Belly Dance school in St. Petersburg. I performed and taught belly dance full time. I traveled to Cairo, Egypt a lot – there I learned the art of Belly Dance or Oriental Dance (in Arabic Raks Sharqi) from the legendary dancers and from the best in the industry. I moved to Dallas in 2010 and after I graduated from the DBU I have opened my dance school in Plano, TX and since then I organized many dance events, workshops, shows and festivals in DFW and traveled with my workshops and shows around the world.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Moving to the new country was a challenge. When I came here I hardly knew what is the belly dance market in USA. I didn’t know anyone. Just a couple of dancers I saw on YouTube. So I had to start from the very beginning. As I came to Dallas, I won a very prestigious competition of Oriental Dance – Queen of Raks Sharqi. I performed a lot in DFW area and beyond and started to teach classes.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Dalida Bellydance – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Dalida Bellydance school is a place for everyone, everyone who loves Oriental music and dance. I leach my regular classes and give workshops, I also teach online classes. I specialize in Egyptian style of Oriental Dance. I am so happy that so many women became happier when Oriental dance became a part of their life. They became more confident, they feel and look beautiful, they are healthier and stronger. I think my school is different because of my background. I teach and I tell the story, the story of my life.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I am so looking forward to my 4th Annual Oriental Dance Festival RAKS Europe|USA, which will take place on August 27th, in Dallas, TX. Renowned guest instructors and performers from Europe will come to teach at this event. We will have guests from Germany, Austria, Russia and Uzbekistan.

I am also planning my European tour in the 2017 and 2018.

In Dallas I will continue teaching and performing as soloist and with my beloved troupe (Dalida Bellydance Troupe).
