Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsey Howard.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Thank You Ink started with a simple conversation with my husband, Tim. I was talking with Tim about the hilarious greeting cards I had seen at Target (I talked about this often) and I remember saying, “I love cards so much.” And what he said next completely changed everything, despite its simplicity.
Tim responded, “why don’t you make your own cards?” How had I not thought of this before?!
That was the first thing that ran through my mind, and the second was, “can I really make this work?” I was excited, scared, and confident to move forward with this idea formed out of a passion to make people laugh and smile.
I began working on designs immediately, writing funny sayings like, “make a wish! Because by the looks of it, you don’t have many left,” and “you did it! Con-graduation-s.” I was in my element. My dorky, corny, amazing element.
Now, after just over one year of business and over 1000 cards sold, I have seen significant progress in my art style, business strategies, and my ability to connect with people who enjoy light-hearted, adorable greeting cards.
Please tell us about your art.
Thank You Ink specializes in uniquely designed greeting cards and a variety of products such as baseball caps, coffee mugs, and tote bags. All my greeting cards are made with a timeless simplicity in mind. The world today tells us that we need to be doing a million things at once, all at once and sometimes (many times) it can be near impossible to keep up. Thank You Ink’s designs and cards are built around the principle that simple is beautiful. That is my motto. In the words of Dwight Shrute, “keep it simple, stupid.” We all have our own uniqueness gifted to us that should empower us to strive for the very best, and that looks different from person to person.
Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
My advice for aspiring artists and/or business owners would be to make intentional choices that benefit you, your business, and your customers. A lesson I wish I would have learned earlier is figuring out my project limit (and sticking to that). I said “yes” to way too many projects early on and completely swamped myself, Ha! Now I have a system and schedule for every project and order that comes my way.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
