Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsey Munchrath.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve always had a passion for fashion, culture and people. Most of my teen years I dreamt of being in design and collaborating with artisans all over the world to produce unique- handmade goods. In college, I started my retail career and fell head over heels. I loved being able to meet, and get to know people from all walks of life.
The idea of owning my own boutique blossomed during these years as I gained some amazing knowledge and experience. After becoming a mother two years ago, I finally got the courage to take a leap of faith and start the process of creating my own store. Six months, blood sweat and tears later I opened the doors to Beatnik Fine Goods!
Has it been a smooth road?
The roads I’ve taken on this journey have had many forks. But, if it were easy would it be worth it? Life gets in the way and throws a curve ball here and there, but we stand up dust off the dirt and keep on keepin’ on. The biggest challenges for me were the renovations.
My husband and I wanted to cut some corners so with the help of our loved ones we did most of the renovations ourselves. We were faced with the ongoing process of trial and error, and I did things I never thought my hands could do. In the end, the hard (sweaty) work was worth it, and now I can add a contractor to my resume. (LOL!)
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Beatnik Fine Goods – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Beatnik Fine goods is a vision and dream of mine. My family and I have deep roots in Oak Cliff and decided it was the perfect place for my dream to evolve. The style and mood of the store reflect my own personal passions and love for people and design. From vintage jewelry, and one of a kind baby gifts, too easy airy bohemian essentials and specialty home decor from across the globe- Beatnik Fine goods is at once modern- chic yet bohemian casual.
Featuring a long time and up and coming fashion designers as well as vintage and handcrafted home decor by artisans made with love across the transatlantic. Beatnik is a must see for all lovers of design. Staying true to the name, Beatnik’s interior is black and white with light Baltic Birch touches that make anyone feel welcome. We are a family built and run business and love being a part of our local community.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I LOVE OAK CLIFF!!!!! My husband and I have lived here for 5 years, and will probably never leave! We both run a small business in Oak Cliff and are super excited to raise our child among all of the fabulous people in this city. Our community is super supportive of small business, and we’ve made some amazing friends between the two business. I love the diverse community, everyone seems to beat their own drum and the harmony is quite beautiful.
