Meet Lindsey Overby of Sunrise Broken Bow

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsey Overby.

Lindsey Overby

Hi Lindsey, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve lived in Texas for the majority of my life, aside from living in NYC for a few years after college to work in corporate retail. I decided to move back to Dallas because I needed more closet space, and I really missed Mexican food and my family.

For the past 10 years, I’ve always wanted to invest in real estate; I just didn’t know how to get started. In 2021, I decided to buy a small piece of land as my initial investment. Then, I purchased my first home, all while researching and planning to build a cabin in Broken Bow, Oklahoma with my family.

My friends like to give me a hard time because I waited so long to invest, and then I crammed it all into a couple of years, ha. This is true. Once I realized that there is no perfect time, no perfect floorplan, and no perfect investment, it actually made it easier to go for it.

Fast forward to today, my family and I own two beautiful farmhouse cabins in Broken Bow, Oklahoma (also called Hochatown). We are originally from Shawnee, OK, so in one way, you could say we are getting back to our roots.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
To say that the years between 2020-2022 were unpredictable would be an understatement. When I purchased the land that I own, it was still a leap of faith, but it felt much more stable being in the middle of 2021. By the time we closed on the cabins in Broken Bow at the end of 2022, interest rates had increased, and travel had slowed due to uncertainty in the economy.

Not to get all Ecclesiastes on you, but I believe that there is a season for everything and that those seasons serve a purpose. I may not understand the “why” in each season, but that is where I choose to trust that God has a plan and that I am in the middle of it. You just have to keep moving forward. Do not look back.

My family and I love serving people, which is why we decided to get into the Short-Term Rental business. We provide peaceful cabins for families and friends to relax, rejuvenate, and even be restored. There is something about getting away from your day-to-day and sitting among pine trees or around a fire with real wood. That scene is so iconic there are candle companies who try to recreate this for you in a jar.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We own two beautiful farmhouse cabins in Broken Bow, Oklahoma (also called Hochatown).

Both cabins have fire pits, grills, outdoor dining and TV watching areas, hot tubs, ropes courses and playgrounds for kids, and hammocks for lounging. We also provide all linens, pillows, blankets, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and a fully furnished farmhouse kitchen.

Our larger cabin, Morning Glory, sleeps 10 and is all one story. We love this feature because families with all ages can easily move around the cabin without worrying about steps or anyone feeling left out. We also have large king bedrooms with soaking tubs and double vanities. 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms

Our smaller cabin, Sunnyside, sleeps 6 and has an upstairs game room with French doors that open up to a beautiful balcony where you can drink coffee and watch the sunrise or stargaze at night. 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
This is a fun question. For full transparency, my two older sisters should probably answer this, but I’ll try to represent them well.

I am the youngest of three girls. My parents did a wonderful job raising us in a home where both parents worked, but they still made time for our family, playing sports, church, and game nights. Our family still plays golf together often.

One of the main characteristics that might describe me is being empathetic. I have a heart for people, and I care very deeply about the family and friends that I have.

I may have, on occasion, met a perfect stranger that needed to be acknowledged and see a smiling face. I’ve realized that my life is not about what makes me the most comfortable or fills my selfish desires, but it is about loving others and letting them know that they are seen and not forgotten…

One of the reasons we designed our cabin, Morning Glory, as all one story is because I had a dream one night about a family who had a child with special needs. In the dream, all of the kids were going to the bunk room in this amazing upstairs loft, and only the adult rooms were downstairs, so one child was left downstairs with the adults. I woke up from this dream with tears streaming down my face, and I just knew that one of our cabins needed to be easy for everyone to be together and that no one would feel left out.
