Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisseth Nava.
What can you tell us about your story?
My passion for entertainment industry started when I was just a little girl growing up in Garland TX. I remember dazzling my ‘audience’, my mom and dad. As a child I would dance in the living room to Selena on TV, I would mimic the performance and tell my parents that, “one day, I’m going to be a model and they would see me on TV one day.”
When I was twenty, I started my journey! My first venture into the world of modeling. Joe Arenas, a wonderful friend, was my first photographer. He swore he saw something in me. He believed in my potential which in turn made me see the potential in myself. Starting as a low-rider model, I moved into the glamor model and then fashion modeling. It was a journey!
A year later, would be first introduction to the world of acting, willfully an unexpected one at that. I was not a part of the audition, but serving as a Casting Assistant, keeping track of potential talents and calling them up for their opportunity. While it was not my chance to shine, yet, it was my first time working alongside an audition with the director and producer and doing anything related to acting, so I will consider it my first ‘win.’ Seeing that side of the industry pushed me all-the-more to pursue chasing my dream, that promise a little girl made to her parents.
I challenged myself and was able to secure my first role in a commercial Bryan Loncar’s law firm commercial, I would then really begin to build a name by appearing in other videos such as: “More Than Friends” by Jeremy Allen. “Plain O’ TX” by Kaleb McIntire, “Rolex ra gucci” by Kushal ft uddah, and Lil Cas’, “Kumbion.”
Then, in 2020 as the world stood still, I pushed through and would find myself in two separate infomercials, one for sexual awareness infomercial and the racial awareness.
My first notable appearance in film would be in the faith-based film, from Director TheoBreRay entitled, “Dry Places “ Frankly, it’s been nonstop since, moving from that, straight into “Congenial Partners” directed by Artis, “The Mogul,” by Jason Brewer, “Diamond Texter,” by Dubee, “Black Couples Fantasy,” directed by Derek LaCaze, “The Chosen S3,” Directed by Dallas Jenkins, “Lexi and Jade,” Directed by Fred T and notably voiceover work for AMC’s, “Fear the Walking Dead” directed by Robert Kirkman, Dave Erickson, Gale Herd.
After a blessed and crazy two years, I decided to get help and signed with ICON Studios. Truly grateful, through them and their caring talents, I can focus on my family without the stress of looking for gigs and hoping for the best. I did not want to just sign with anyone. I wanted to sign with someone that was more family-oriented and willing to work with me, along with working for me. Before signing them, I had the chance to work with many of the talented Icon actors and models. I will say, while work is important to me, the bond and connection between those you’re working with is what matters most. The bond I have found with CEO Normita Joven, my agent Nick Callaway and our Icon family is iconic
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This industry is not as much ‘easy’ as it is a ‘learning process;’ however, it is a sacrifice. Mind you, I left the industry for a time. I left this love, to learn what it is was to love, referring to having my amazing children— my two girls. It took time. This business can be daunting and children require time and love. Taking time to step away and being not just a mother, but a mommy was a choice. Stepping away momentarily to be a part of their lives was important and needed, and just as much of my own personal learning process. Through them, I learned the truth behind passion, understanding, and caring. While my babies will always need me (as much as I will need them, I stayed focused on parenthood until they were old enough to not require around-the-clock attention from me. It was nice to return to my life of acting and modeling, but coming back was definitely challenging not only because it was challenging. A new world of stress came, between working around finding a sitter, to putting in work, it made me grow and have tough skin— something this industry requires.
Many will critique you, personally and professionally- from how you look to what you do for work (even those you call family). But, as long as you’re focused on your goals, keep your head high, it truly does not matter what anyone thinks.
Follow your purpose!
No, not will everyone will understand. Your calling is, after all, YOU’RE CALLING. You are in charge of your life, not others. Take your power back and shine.
As long as you are reaching your goals to change for the better you are on the right path.
There is so much more in the works I cannot wait to share… so stay tuned!
I can say, I am in the running for Miss Economic World to help Ukraine. Our goal is to relocate families from danger zones, and assure they are fed, and tended to be reunited with their families. Winning Miss Economic World would mean the world to me. It allows me to continue to help other charities for a year— another of my passions is to help those that need it most.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Easy; my girls. They light up my world! Sure, I have my interests: I love to paint and to craft. Those things bring me peace, my ‘zen,’ if you will. Of course, I find happiness and confidence in modeling and acting, but it is also therapeutic if you can believe that. I also find my philanthropy very rewarding, helping those who need it most— truly helping them.
