Meet Lizbet and Adrien Palmer of The Last City in Oak Cliff

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lizbet and Adrien Palmer.

Lizbet and Adrien, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
The Last City began in 2012 while Adrien and Lizbet Palmer were living abroad in Hiroshima, Japan. While there, the acoustic guitar/violin duo performed extensively, from local bars to house concerts, church services to city festivals. Much of their performance style and arrangements are informed by these experiences of playing for multi-cultural, multi-lingual audiences around the world.

When they returned to their hometown of Columbia, South Carolina in Spring 2015, it was only for a season. Four months later, they were driving a U-Haul with everything they owned to Dallas, TX, a city neither one had ever been to prior to driving across the state line. Since then, they have started laying down roots, performing locally, buying a house, bringing on bassist Lucas Reader, and getting a dog named Tyler. They have an album, The Last City EP, that you can listen to anywhere you listen to music.

Has it been a smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road but like most creatives, we’ve learned that change is the norm. We’ve enjoyed the struggle of finding our sound, our audience, and our message. And adapting along the way.

Can you give our readers some background on your music?
The Last City’s goal is to help ourselves and other people see how we are all connected. Primarily that’s through music, but we incorporate story, spiritual practices, video, and whatever else we can to create that experience. Our current project, Willfully Human, is a great example of that. Through Patreon, we’re writing and posting monthly songs and Adrien has been releasing two chapters a week of an accompanying book! Later in the project, we will be adding a collaborative photography element.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Dallas has something for everyone. It may take some time to find your tribe, but everywhere we’ve performed, we’ve connected with someone. We would love to see Dallas become an official Music Friendly Community. We’ve been fortunate enough to play at many of the local venues and would love to see even more opportunities for artists like us who are proud to call Dallas home.
