Today we’d like to introduce you to Lizzie Somabut.
Lizzie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I began my life coaching business a few years ago on the side, mainly hosting goal setting workshops here and there around the area. I stepped into this coaching role when I no longer wanted to pursue my career in counseling. I loved my time in that setting but I felt a tug on my heart to share those types of messages and exercises with others outside of that environment.
For those years, I kept it as my “side hustle” while still working my full-time job. But recently, I’ve committed more of my free time into this life coaching business by building up my website and social media platforms, hosting more workshops, and being part of more speaking events to obtain more clients. My vision for myself and this brand is to be a “self-care guru” and my sessions are rooted in self-compassion, body positivity, and overall wellness!
My own personal growth has a lot to do with the power of self-compassion and wellness so I want my work to reflect that. I’m eternally grateful for my experiences as a counselor and my time with a therapist for shaping me to be able to do this work. And now my community here is helping me achieve my goals by sharing my work with others!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There have definitely been some obstacles along the way, such as maintaining a steady stream of coaching clients and income. And even though I hosted workshops, I rarely obtained clients from those. Luckily, life coaching hasn’t been my main source of income so it didn’t affect me financially, but it was still defeating. It definitely made me question if I was doing the “right” thing or if I could even make it as a life coach since it seemed that no one believed in me enough to work with me. But I learned that I couldn’t let that hold me back if this was my passion! And now that I have goals to turn this side hustle into a full-time role, so many people who I met from those workshops have reached out to offer their support and share my work with their communities!
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Lizzie Somabut Coaching – what should we know?
I’m a life coach and speaker sharing the messages of self-care, body positivity, and wellness with people who are navigating through seasons of change and looking to re-ground themselves in who they are. I use practices like goal setting exercises to help clients further their self-development, then root our sessions in the work of self-compassion to initiate the change that will help them achieve their goals.
So far, I’m proud of the impact my messages have had on the community! Ever since I refocused my time on growing my business, I’ve received an outpour of support from people to speak at events or collaborate together. It’s helped reaffirm in me why I started this and it’s what I come back to when I feel stuck.
With that, I’m most excited about the workshops that I plan to host this year and the face to face time I’ll have with attendees. I think that’s what will set me apart from others in my field. I want to share my passion with as many people as possible and I can’t wait to get in front of my audience! I think with the emphasis on social media and having an online business, human interaction beyond a screen can sometimes get lost. And while I’m not opposed to expanding my business online one day (to share my work around the world), I think for now it’s so important to converse with as many people as possible in person while I can.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
And so many people are to credit for getting me to where I am today! I’m thankful for all the people in my life who have supported me from the first day to today – Clayton Collie, Ben Hurt, Andrea Overturf of the blog Loubies and Lulu, Mai Lyn Ngo of the blog Deep Fried Fit and community Dallas Fitness Ambassadors, Nikki Barlow and Laura Rush of the community BeBona Fide, photographer Thomas Do, Sharif Abboud of Evolve Fitness in Dallas, and all of my best friends who support me in this work. I could not do this without my amazing community; they’ve shown me how important it is to have a “tribe” that supports you in your endeavors.
