Today we’d like to introduce you to Lowell Malinis.
Lowell, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My fondest memories have always been with a camera in my hand. From being a six-year old snapping photos and turning the wheel of disposable cameras through my teenage years, stealing my mom’s camera to film skateboarding and other teenage antics, I’ve always found happiness in capturing memories.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There’s always challenges when it comes to following your own path. Mainly all mental obstacles where you start questioning how you feel about your work. I wouldn’t say I had a particularly hard path but some days, I just don’t like the work I’m doing and take a break for a while. The journey never goes as plan but somehow, it always works out in the end.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I love the personal freedom in working for myself. I wouldn’t say I specialize in anything and I love it that way. I do a wide array of things when it comes to shooting weddings, music videos, portrait photography and lifestyle shots. I’m proud that I can shoot anything and everything without having someone tell me what to do. I would say my turnover rate sets me apart from others. I just like getting things done as efficiently as possible but with amazing quality.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I don’t remember how young I was but I just remember my grandpa handing me his camera and showing me how to take pictures. My favorite part of the whole thing was using the scroll wheel to load in the next shot.
