Today we’d like to introduce you to Lucy Diaz-Flores.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Growing up, I always had a passion for florals and a natural eye for design. One of my very first jobs was working as a floral designer for a small, local florist. At first, I started as an assistant to the veteran floral designers, and was always looking for a new challenge and an opportunity to move up in the company. Once I too became a designer, I recognized my true talent; combined with my natural competitive personality, and my strong work ethic, I decided it was time for me to take my career to the next level. In order to gain more expertise in the events industry, I then spent some time working at a destination management company, where I became familiar with servicing high-end clients and gained my knowledge and expertise in events. With both the floral design and event management backgrounds, I decided to open my own full-service floral and event design company, Bella Flora of Dallas, in 2000.
Next, when I felt like my floral design business was running successfully, I was itching for a new project and challenge. I had added many beautiful furniture and tabletop pieces to my inventory in order to design fabulous weddings for my full-service floral clients. In 2012, with the addition of many more beautiful additions to our inventory, I launched a luxury event rental company, Bella Acento. What I love about owning a luxury event rental company is that it is open to anyone for use. Many clients and wedding planners who do not use Bella Flora for full-service design can select gorgeous rental pieces to incorporate into their weddings – and I love that a bride can have her dream wedding with a few extra glamorous touches! I have continued to grow my businesses over the years and I can truly say that I continue learning and gaining important knowledge each day, and while loving what I do!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I think every entrepreneur will say there are challenges to owning a business, but they are certainly learning opportunities.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Bella Flora & Bella Acento – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Bella Flora is a full-scale production and design company that specializes in luxury weddings and events throughout the DFW area, as well as destinations. Bella Acento, or sister company, is a luxury event rental company that services the Dallas/Fort-Worth area. Bella Flora is very unique in the sense that we do not gravitate toward one specific style of design. We don’t like to “put ourselves in a box” per say. Someone could look at ten different weddings that we had produced within a year and probably not guess that they were all designed by the same company! Our range of design can include traditional white weddings, modern/sleek weddings, rustic or nature-inspired weddings, organic/garden-inspired, and bohemian styles. We love the challenge of creating something new and refreshing that really reflects our client as a couple.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plans for the future are to continue growing my businesses and continue designing many weddings and events that are even better than before!
