Meet Luis Mendoza of The Party Rescue

Today we’d like to introduce you to Luis Mendoza.

Luis, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
As a 12 year old kid, I tagged along with my older sister when she would go hang out with her friends. My sister knew someone that was a DJ in our neighborhood and would go visit him from time. The moment I got to witness somebody blend music with 2 turntables , made me fell in love. Since then , I began collecting records and mixing in my parent’s basement in Chicago. I remember having two turntables with no pitch control. They were part of a stereo system that had an eight track player. By the age of 14, I was able to purchase a pair of Technic 1200’s and thats all it took. Luis Like Dis was born! I started doing house parties, school dances and Quinceaneras. I remember as a young teen spinning at house parties playing house music in someone’s basement till like 3/4 in the morning. When I visited my sister in Irving TX one summer , the weather and scenery was a lot different from where I grew up. From that day I knew Texas was home. I moved there later in my early 20’s and was spinning at different clubs in Dallas and Fort Worth.

I soon was able to be part of a few different mix shows on Power 107, KKDL 106.7 and KNON 89.3. I worked at a local record store called Latin One Stop where I was able to connect with all of the local DJs. I also worked in Pro Audio at Guitar Center in Fort Worth for about ten years. I was able to travel a little as a DJ playing different venues in South Texas. After a couple of years, I soon got a residency at a Fort Worth Night Club called City Streets. I started in the 80’s room and transitioned over to their dance/hip hop room Cages. I spent ten years as a resident DJ there. After a couple of attempts at starting different businesses, I decided to go back to my roots and continue with my own mobile DJ company. I then started my current company, The Party Rescue. My company caters to all types of events like weddings, corporate and even marathons. I also offer rentals and installations of sound and lights for all types of businesses. Currently, I do a few fill in gigs and I also have a few regular spots I play at around the DFW.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have had a few things that didn’t work the way that I would have liked. I take those as learning lessons and use the positive parts and apply them to my future projects. Sometimes the lesson isn’t learning what to do, it is learning what not to do. I think the struggles you go through are what make the reward that much more meaningful.

The Party Rescue – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Being in the scene for so long I was able to develop good relationships with a lot of people in the industry. The Party Rescue really developed from there. I found myself assisting with many things like audio gear rental to tech support of DJ software. I remember DJ Qbert was spinning at a local club and needed a special cable to connect to the sound system. One of the DJ’s said call Luis, I know he has that cable. I brought it in just in time for his show. Throughout the years, I received calls from filling in spots for DJ’s at their gigs to quick equipment rental for a DJ that had equipment failure. Thats where The Party Rescue name came from. I think the things that make me happy about what I do is that people can trust and rely on me to help them out. From advice on their next gear purchase to a last-minute call in need of a powered speaker or wireless mic. I like helping people. I think that is what sets us apart.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Thats pretty hard to say. As a DJ, I would say I have had a few moments that I was proud to be part of. I think any of the events that my sons have been with me have been the best ones for me. Family is everything.
