Meet Lynn Rivera of Lynn’s Hair Lair in Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lynn Rivera.

Lynn, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My story, hmmm… I mean as a little kid I always loved doing other people’s hair. I’d brush it, braid it, put it up, bring it down and do it all over again. Fast forward to High school when I’d do hair and makeup for the other girl’s banquets and prom. I had the passion but I wasn’t ready yet. So I went and joined the United States Marine Corps. While being in I was blessed to have two local barbers teach me how to properly do Men’s fades. After completing the Marines I started cosmetology school. Life threw a few curveballs and school took the backroad. In 2016 I was finally able to return and finish school. Got my first salon job at Dillards Aveda Salon and Spa. In 2018 I was blessed again because that’s when I made Novak Hair Studios my home.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Hahaha, oh man, it has definitely not been a smooth road. Yet I wouldn’t have wanted it to be. With every obstacle, it made me stronger and grow. It made my passion run deeper and my drive that much more powerful. I know that sounds very vague. So a little detail.

Upon getting out of the Marines and starting school I was quickly greeted with a divorce. I nose-dived straight into being a single mom. Thankfully my own parents were right there to help me. I was struggling with alcoholism, working two sometimes three jobs, school, learning how to not be such a Marine and most importantly learn how to be a mom. As I said before school took the backroad. I worked on myself and my son. I was focused on work and being healthy again. From the alcoholism, I was having some serious health issues.

In 2012 I met Sklyer (my significant other), and in 2014 we had our son Kieran. In 2015, my oldest son Antonio went to move in with his father for he was struggling too much in school. His stepmom is a teacher and was able to provide more for him thankfully. Bringing us to 2016 when I finally enrolled back in school, to which I was quickly medically disabled because I was put on bed rest for the pregnancy of Lorelei. After her arrival, I finally finished.

Please tell us about Lynn’s Hair Lair.
Lynn’s Hair Lair is a little different than many places. Here you can get that luxury experience while in a comfortable inviting environment. A place where you can get the whole family taken care of. I am mainly known for my men’s cuts/beard care, as well as for my coloring services. To make even vivid colors appear to be natural.

As business has been growing more people are learning about my makeup skills as well. I strive to use only natural and organic products. That’s why my chosen color and product line is Eufora for it is aloe-based and organic.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Oooo that’s a tricky one. If I was to pick just one it would be when I was learning to ski. I was three yrs old and fit right in between my uncle’s legs. As we were going down the mountain (both in skies, him with poles and me holding his legs) I kept yelling at him, “faster Uncle Bo, faster!”

Clearly, I’ve always been a thrill-seeker and never live life in the slow lane.
