Today we’d like to introduce you to Mac McAllister.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Both of my parents were very creative people, and I guess it rubbed off on me. My dad was a shop teacher and my mom taught English I was always a very creative person in classes where I could show off my artistic abilities. I studied to become a shop teacher just like my dad, I excelled it any shop work that highlighted my artistic abilities. Now that I have taught for 23 year and built numerous projects, almost too many to count I decided to start my own business to bring in a little retirement money from my creativity.
My last teaching position in Alvarado ISD threw me into learning how to use a laser engraving, cutting machine, I got very good at it so I decided to invest and buy one of my own at about that same time I stumbled into sublimation printing. Now with these two major pieces of technology and my handmade abilities Made LLC was born. I have designed everything from wedding gifts, boxes for loved one’s ashes, triathlon plaques and tons more. I have one more year of teaching then I will be devoting a lot more time to the business.
Please tell us about your art.
My artistic eye is the layout of work so that it catches the eye and is attractive, whether it is a plaque or a drinking cup. I have done everything from the complete art work creation, by hand or by computer and then mold it into an attractive final product. I have also worked with my niece Bethany Powell (Bethany’s Letter Shop) and turned her creative written art work into solid pieces for cake topper and table numbers for weddings
Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
Do something you enjoy, it’s not always about the money!!
