Today we’d like to introduce you to Mackenzie Adams.
Mackenzie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My love for the beauty industry started when I was about twelve or thirteen and the new Urban Decay Naked palette had just been released. Being the only palette I owned and using it everyday, my new passion for makeup would soon pave my way into the beauty industry. When I was in High School, I had spent a lot of time trying to learn and develop techniques to improve myself since I was self-taught. I would even do a lot of my friend’s makeup for events like prom or homecomings. During my Senior year, I went and toured Aveda Institutes in Dallas along with two other beauty schools and I knew my heart was drawn towards Aveda.
I started Esthetic school at Aveda in 2016. Going into school, I did not have the best skin, I actually had cystic acne all over my cheeks and jawline. I was embarrassed at the fact that my skin had looked so awful yet here I was sitting in beauty school. This made me very determined to learn and become more knowledgeable with Esthetics. While in school not only did I clear my own skin during the process but I was also awarded “Student of the month” & “ Top Performer” upon graduating. Once I had finished all my tests and requirements to finally become a Licensed Esthetician I was now able to start my journey. I spent two years in Dallas gaining experience at a spa and waxing studio. I even took additional educational classes such as laser school becoming a licensed laser technician and makeup classes to become a certified professional MUA. I still constantly take different classes for product knowledge with different brands to continue my growth as an Esthetician. I ended up leaving Dallas and moving back to where I grew up in a small town called Mabank. I wanted to bring luxury spa services back to Mabank so that people didn’t have to commute back and forth to Dallas.
I started my small business at the age of 21 offering facials, waxing and makeup. I have since added Cryoskin slimming and toning sessions and tons of new facial gadgets. I have now had my business for over a year and been a Licensed Esthetician for over three years. I enjoy making others not only feel beautiful but giving them proper knowledge so that they can continue to see results at home. I don’t just see my clients as my clients, I have amazing relationships and conversations with everyone that steps into my room. I find it incredible that I now have an entire career in something I am passionate about.
Has it been a smooth road?
It was not easy getting where I am today. It takes a lot of work to start up and run your own business. I feel like no one talks about that side of it but it’s a lot! I try and just keep things simple and organized so that I’m not over doing or spending an unnecessary amount of time on certain things. Other than that I have not really had any major challenges.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
My business name is Esthetics With Mackie. My nickname has been Mackie for many years & my business/services are skin. I offer different services such as Customized Facials, full body speed waxing, CryoSkin Slimming and toning sessions and Makeup applications. My favorite service to do is definitely facials! All of my facials are customized based on my clients skin care needs. Not only am I treating their skin on things that can be improved or what they are lacking but they are also getting to relax. I like to include massages so that my clients are getting a spa experience. I also enjoy making videos of my work and posting them on my social media pages. This give me a way to show what is included in my services and how they work for people that have never had a facial or even waxing service before.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Dallas, Texas is a great start for Spa businesses! There’s a very high demand for spa services! Dallas gave me tons of experience and now I have my career and business doing so!
