Today we’d like to introduce you to Madeline Edwards.
Hi Madeline, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I began photographing my children as a hobby back in 2014. I quickly fell in love with the art of storytelling through photos. I found myself growing undeniably passionate as I learned the value of my own vision. I’m completely self-taught, I’ve learned every ounce of my education through trial and lots of error. I’m five years into my journey and am so proud of the stories I’ve been trusted to tell thus far, be it weddings, families, maternity, etc. I own and operate my small but flourishing business solely and am so excited for the direction it is taking.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not always. It’s definitely been an uphill” battle, but as cliche as it sounds, that’s how you truly evolve and grow. It takes a lot of patience and resilience to develop a craft while simultaneously discovering your worth as an artist. My biggest challenge that I face is balancing entrepreneurship and the art. They’re contrasting but both vital for my success.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I offer such a broad range of photography, but among the variety, I consistently am recognized for my love for light. All I need is a pocket of light, and I’m set. I love the balance of light + shadows, it can create such a beautiful mystery. I’m most proud of my creativity when balancing the two. I try to create emotional and creative imagery so that clients can feel as though they are displaying art in their home with my images. That’s what I’m most proud of, I think.
What does success mean to you?
I think you plant the seeds to become successful when learn your value as a business or artist and commit to growing it. I think you establish continued success when value + fulfillment align. Everything else is fine print. If you genuinely love what you do and are able to make a living out of it, that’s the ultimate success.
