Madison, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Cinnamon founded Bad Kitty Photography back in 1997 in a spare bedroom in the back of her house. The goal was to make women feel empowered, strong, and most importantly… sexy! Each year BKP got more and more popular, which allowed us to transition from a one-bedroom backroom studio to a completely converted garage studio and then to a proper small studio in San Diego, CA. Madison, her daughter, became apart of the Kitty Crew in 2013 and helped branch out the studio from west coast to east coast in 2017. With the powerful mother-daughter duo, there was not anything Bad Kitty couldn’t do! Flash forward 20 years and Bad Kitty has become the leading boudoir photography studio nationwide with over ten active city locations! We have hired on an amazing team of body-positive, empowering female photographers all across the United States!
Has it been a smooth road?
No successful company comes easy, right? In order to be relevant, you must evolve and that is exactly what Bad Kitty did. Each year Cinnamon would sit down and see what styles were fashionable. What backdrops were the most popular. Putting her own ideas of what she found appealing into the studio was its own challenge but finding what everyone else did too, what?! Not only did she have a fully functional and booming business on her hands but she had a daughter on her hip 24/7. Becoming a team, Cinnamon and Madison combined both ideas and ultimately found the best results for each city and every single client!
Bad Kitty Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Bad Kitty Photography is a boudoir based photography studio. Our motto is to celebrate your sexy. We want to be a place where good kitties and be bad and bad kitties can be themselves. I can confidently say that Bad Kitty is most proud of how we show women of all shapes and sizes that they are beautiful and knowing that we have made a difference in how they see themselves, and in turn, learn to love themselves is something I am proud of. What sets us apart from any other boudoir studio is that we are all female-based!
All of our photographers and editors are female! It’s one thing for a dude to say, “Oh right there. That’s hot.” Gross. But when a badass chick is gassing you up like “Yes Ma’am you go, girl!” It’s different and that is what we want. Different. Just like you! If you are going to be brave enough to get naked in front of a total stranger, it’s our job to make you feel so comfortable you forget we just met an hour ago. I’m gonna tell you about my partner, my dog, my crazy roommates, crack jokes and treat you like family. Because once you come through our doors, you are not just some lady who wants to feel pretty (even though that’s a big thing for us) but you are family. Welcome to the kitty crew!
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
So many big changes! In the next five years, we want Bad Kitty to be accessible to any woman in the US! Branching out and making sure EVERY woman gets to feel powerful and love the skin they are in!
