Today we’d like to introduce you to Maile Phelps.
Maile, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today. I picked up my first camera when I was 12 years old. Fast forward roughly 15 years later, I decided to turn my passion into a business. When I booked my first engagement and wedding, I knew immediately what I wanted to focus on; love. My clients have turned into lifelong clients and friends and I’ve been so honored to be a part of their lives and capture their most special moments in life and look forward to continuing that journey.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you? No road is ever completely smooth which I’m grateful for. During the struggles and bumps along the way, I was able to finesse my art and focus in on what inspired me. The only struggle has been finding clients that still value the art of photography. It’s not the camera that takes the image, it’s the artist behind it.
So, let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Maile Marie Photography story. Tell us more about the business. I am a storytelling photographer. I love to capture the moments that no one remembers happening but that truly represent the event with pure and raw emotion, along with the formals that go on the mantle at the end of the day. I run my business to serve my clients so what sets me apart is that I don’t “package” everything. I never limit the number of images I give my clients. If I see an image that represents the day and me as an artist, I edit it and give it to my clients no matter the amount.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business? Who also deserves credit?
I have so many photographers who are inspiring to me. My supporters and cheerleaders would be my clients. Without their referrals, I wouldn’t have a business today!
